Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Flashing Screen As of right now, whenever I run Guildwars on my computer the monitor starts to flicker on and off after ~10-15 minutes. With the game minimized there seems to be no issue. At first I thought it was driver issues with the new G15 keyboard I bought but when I unistalled the drivers and hooked up my old keyboard I was still having the same problem.

These games are so advanced that at times some of the issues that you encounter the problem lies with the particular machine you have, or the graphics card, or software installed. Remember these games are not tested on all systems. They are just tested on compatible systems granted you have something that runs on a similar OS and compatable machine. These games are tested in a closed environment on a certain type of machine. Trust me the machines they use are worth more than we are willing to spend! Sorry

Black screen Laptop. Flickers once on start. External Monitor works

Look for your computer's monitor settings, then adjust its refresh rate.
To modify a refresh rate on Windows, right-click anywhere on the Windows desktop.
Select "Properties," then choose the "Display Properties" tab on the window that appears.

Click the "Settings" option, then select "Advanced" from the window that appears.
Choose the "Monitor" tab, which lets you access a drop-down menu with the options for refresh settings adjustments. As a basic guide, use a setting of at least 75 hertz.

Confirm the change by clicking "Apply." Reboot the PC to ensure the new settings on the screen take effect.
Check your screen if the blinking problem is resolved. If not, try a higher refresh setting. If there is no change on the flickering of the screen, this means the problem is not caused by the screen's refresh rate. If your computer is not running on a battery or surge protector, shut it down to safely transfer the plug to another outlet Hope this helps.

On some games at 1920x1080 the screen doesn't fill up like it does on the desktop, and it has liek a flickering, vibrating sort of look.

Check to make sure you aren't running the game in a Window but in full screen mode. If you are running it in a Window this might effect the "refresh rate" for the window it is being run in which would account for the "flickering" effect.

Most games have a setup function. Select "video settings" from the Set Up Menu and make sure you are running the software in full screen mode and at the proper resolution and refresh rates.

You don't have a short-circuit. That would have blown the protections or even the monitor. Refer to the manual, that flashing light may be a code that tells you the problem. I don't think the repair would be expensive...

Ghosting, Flickering, Green Sparkeling Lines, Color Washout.

There is a component failure on the board inside the display. Since you did not post the model number that is all that I can tell you.

Ghosting, Flickering, Green Sparkeling Lines, Color Washout.

I had a similar problem on a different monitor and fixed the green sparkles by selecting a lower refresh rate.

Flashing on and off

I would suggest trying another monitor to rule out your PC or monitor card. I would also check the video settings on the PC. Then assuming your cable/connector and video card are okay, it sounds like a lamp or lamp driver (a.k.a. ballast or inverter) issue. In other words, an internal issue that probably needs component-level troubleshooting.
