I have got a recon computer which came with windows 98 SE, I have now tried 3 different all in one printers and can't get them connected. The install starts but then on part 2/4 it states only compatible with windows 2000 and XP and to upgrade. I need the drivers download I think to make it work, any suggestions please.

You can try to use a different usb port of your computer check if it will be detected or try to plugged a different usb device see if it will be detected by the computer. If you have a different computer try to check if it will be detected. If the computer detects a different device it only means that the hard drive that you are connecting to the computer is faulty.
We need to isolate and troubleshoot from wall out. First, you need to check that your internet line is working by connecting your computer directly to your internet line (take off the router from the scene). If that doesn't work, you need to call your ISP to get you up and running first with your PC. As soon as it's up that's the only time you can add the router to the network.
Windows 98 SE supports USB 2.0. The original Windows 98 (gold) or Windows 98 OEM or Windows 98 Upgrade versions which are not SE will not support USB 2.0. Nor is there any way to get USB 2.0 support for these Windows 98 versions unless you upgrade to Windows 98 SE.
Note that the Windows 98 SE upgrade CD will fail upon completion, leaving the SE Upgrade with a corrupt registry, if you try to run the Windows 98 SE Upgrade CD on a Windows 98 system that has a version of IE installed which is higher than IE 4.

The cause of this problem can be traced to both the computer's hardware configuration and Windows 98SE (Second Edition).
PhotoMAX cameras and other devices featuring USB (Universal Serial Bus) connections may not work with computers running Windows 98 Second Edition and equipped with the following computer hardware:
* an AMD processor (350 MHz or higher)
* VIA Technologies USB Host Controller or SiS 7001 USB Host Controller
To find out what USB Host Controller is on your system:
1. Click Start > Settings and choose Control Panel.
2. Double click the System icon.
3. Choose the Device Manager tab. A window similar to the one shown below appears.
4. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers listing by clicking on the "+" sign next to the listing.
5. Note the type of host controller in the listing. The example above shows the SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller.
