If you're not using the operating system from your old drive, go into your bios (usually by pressing Del, F1, F2, F10 or F12 when the computer starts) and set your first boot device to the original hard drive for your pavillion. This may be found in 'boot device priority' or a similar label in your bios.

I have a hp paviliona1340n and the screen comes on an shows the hp logo, but then the screen goes black and says reboot device and press any key, what can i do to get my computer running back to normal

a1340n,windows what?
this pc Desktop is now retired at HP, no support. 12 years old now.
that depend on 2 things what is wrong.? (hdd or OS dead)
came new with XP the dead OS>.

if you have the HP hot key f11 working
or of you have the HP install media kit for it.

i guess the screens ok, and BIOS is OK, hit the bios key yet? power on hit what the screen tell you, at power on.
if that works and the OS fails to boot?
that means the startup files are bad on hdd
or HDD is bad
or the OS is corrupted.

what I do is boot to linux live cd/dvd or usb stick
if that works we know the HDD is the problem in 1min flat.
the we, hit f11 at power on and pick restore, and pick

the 2005 is us on the cusp of having F11 working or not
F11 is the key that has the full XP install on the HDD.
we run a linux (knoppix 7) DVD there and do the DISK test there.
if that fails the HDD is bad.
see it run here, this live DVD OS is the best test disk around.
and 100% free. if you can burn it or burn to USBSTICK mem.

http://www.pcdied.com/brick-dead.html#Knoppix

running knoppix tells me pc is ok
and at same time the HDD is good or bad.

if the F11 key works, then if lucky you can do repair restore.
or a start up file fix.
F11 runs the HP restore partitions,
id read you service Guide for you and look but HP deleted it.

Hp mini 210-1041nr does not boot up. Keeps looping at startup to did not start successfully

Teaching complex computer topics in text box will never be short.)
PC has vast POINTS OF FAILURE< it was an airplane it be crashed long ago and turned into beer cans.

there are only 2 paths, to any new OS.
(HP media kit or F11) (the HDD must be good. first)

no OS stated, why post not saying what OS is here ,XP?
the ESC key does it work>? guess yes.
this is first test. of all modern HP puters.
power on, (hammer , the ESC key) as the screen tells you do do in white text... see that>?
IF BIOS is alive and the battery inside is not shorted (take it out)
then the F11 key works
if someone (the bad guy) installed, a newer or same OS from a microsoft disk , (NOT HP) then not the PC is slammed.
the F11 is dead.
F11 is the hidden HP restore PARTITION.
here are the tests. in the correct order. on all ; PC , ill post them now. (modern HP only)
1: does BIOS work? Esc key , F2, F9, f10 , f11, )
all BIOS keys most respond at power on, if not the battery is shorted. remove it and continue. (end LT horror 1)
2: screen works , bios works, all bios keyswork even F11 tries to work but does not get to the blue restore pages....
3: if all the above, seems to work but only F11 fails that means 1 of 2 things, the HDD id dead, or the HDD was corrupted.
4: at this point we boot to good old and FREE, Knoppix,V7 media.
we boot it and do the HDD tests NOW,
be a waste of time loadning ANY OS on any bad HDD now, totally time waster to extremes.....
here is how to do that. easy. l
Click linux start button , yah just like windoz
then type disk, or find it in there. run DISK
this is disk testing. see the SMART menu , if the smart data shows
unrecoverable sectors, the HDD is TOASTED, its END OF LIFE.
A FACT.
if the disk test fails, the HDD is toasted worse.

http://www.pcdied.com/brick-dead.html#Knoppix

Ok knoppix boots, if not the PC is far far sicker than you think,.

ok this works ok.
the OS on your PC is wrecked.
so load it.
if F11 is dead, that means the HP restore partition is wrecked.
corrupted. as can happen using NON HP restore disks (media)
the correct path now is here.

the HP offical Medial kit from HP, we are not HP we are chat box fixya. (nobody!)

F11 may take you here on any 2006 or newer HP PC

the F11 key runs the HP Recovery partition, installer setup prog.
and land here, on a new PC or any not slammed, with wrong OS.
restore-f11-da0cv3s1i5gku1eufa4qjtra-4-0.jpg power on, hammer, F11, F11.,f11, from 1 second to 5 sec.
repeat power on if F11 did not respond. power off first.
the newer the PC the more choices here.

Today I tried restore my computer to a previous state using HP recovery manager. After the restoring process ended a sign appeared saying that the restoring couldn't take place due to some 0xc000022 error....

no OS stated by you, Windows XP,Vista, 7,8 or 10, ?
is the OS same as new?/?
save version?????????????????????????????????????
HP tells me it came with W7 64bit, tell me its not W10 now.

the F11 key, that way, you need to tell how you did that.
what method (there is not just one method)
the F11 key full recover takes a good HDD,
we do the hdd tests first.
or its all just a waste of time.
DV7 is old. so what do techs do old.
1: new coin cell, is yours 10 years old, and hopeless.....??????
2: main battery out do not do what you did with the Main huge bad battery installed use only the AC power pack to run now.
3: vents clean if the PC overheats how can it reInstall OS ? cant.
see slide show for LapTops. if packed it will overheat and fail.!!!
http://pcdied.com/overheated.html
4; we test the HDD next using linux. (free if you have blank CD or Thumbdrive. do the smart tests then the full drive test.
http://pcdied.com/linux.html

5: ok the HDD is bad, new HDD and buy new OS yours is gone.
6:ok HDD was good , but F11 is messed up only.
if F11 is messed up that means the HDD was slammed.
that means (alien OS installed or using wrong media, not from HP)
If someone damaged the HP C:/recovery partition , then F11 is doomed. for sure.

http://pcdied.com/slammed.html

lets say you didnt buy the recover disk when new from HP
and now HP does not sell them this old, yup they dont.
see 9 ways to get the OS here.

http://www.pcdied.com/HP-OS-GET.html

last. lets say the OS is gone,or HDD bad or replaced and you bought a new OS install disk, say W7
then what,?
well the HP drivers is what. or w7 will not have them all .
here they are for free
from your official HP support page

The dv5 1250 us laptop I got not quite 2 years ago is not booting up. The first light goes on but the hard drive light does not. The happens the odd time and I just take out the battery, put it back in...

gee why not leave the bad battery out, and run on AC power
now. batteries short, leave it out. until PC runs again.
does it work now? on AC line power. ONLY ?
the laptop will run just like desktop now, endlessly (AC power ok)
next is the fan running, battery out? yes/no.
if yes, it has power maybe... some.
does the screen ever show text,? or HP logo.. small logo.
if yes that means you do have power, and the screen works
and the BIOS hot keys work : do they?
the hot keys are, F2 F10 , Esc, F8 or f11.
for 2 years prompted with that text.. its in the service manual
the hot keys.
i read you manual in 1 minute flat.
F11 is the recover hot key, does that work
does it show ANYTHING at all ?
(text or errors, )
power on an quickly hammer F11 f11 f11, over and over and bam recovery mode happens

this PC has CCFL lamps that go bad. LCD back lamps all die this old. or turn yellow.
if the screen black all the time out comes the flashligtht
see data now? F2, ESC, F11 key pressed power on.
page 112 in your free service manual
says push ESC to get BIOS,
then F10
F11 is recover your OS.

HP Pavilion Media Center a1235c PC Desktop computer error - says Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll Please re-install a copy of...

a very old DT. listed now as RETIRED.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products
what OS is there now???? seems its XP right?

what disc, be clear.?
I have already used the Operating System disc - Reinstallation CD
HP? set (called the HP media kit cd set)
MS (microsoft have vast discs and all fail lacking a license.
OR FROM FROM VIRUS SITE THAT SELLS cloned DISKS.

LESSON 1, The case COA tag is the HP/MS OEM license
that is useless with any MS you have, its OEM disks, not RETAIL license.
so only HP disks work see? with that COA.
MS does not sell OEM disks, but long ago, MS did XP like that but are rare as hens teeth then and x1000 more rare now... EBAY?

first is F11 restore key
if the HDD is still good and not MS installer slammed.
then the F11 key works, or F10 for old XP.

That function key is boot up hot key
F10 for the oldest. even older have no hot key at all
like win2000?
show stoppers.
no key
no correct disk the HP disk has all the HP chip drivers that work
F10 or F11 HP restore key, will fail if the HDD is dead.
F10 or F11 HP , key fails if someone used MS disks on it in the past.
if this pc is super old, you need a set of disks and a matching coa license,
MS still requires activation on XP and VISTA. on up.
even though XP is now, DEAD at MS

next time say what OS is on the system the
show photos of the 1st CD. and magic happens, we go UNBLIND.

if running XP consider upgrading it?
