A bag of milk spilled inside the fridge, somehow works its way through the body of the fridge and into a catch tray in the bottom of the fridge which is meant for water from the water line.
The pan is for holding the defrost water for it to evaporate. If the milk creates an odor, you can acces the pan by removing the front panel under the door (usually). The pan will probably come out so you can clean it.

The problem is that the milk curdled and started to smell really bad. I've tried cleaning the tray from behind the fridge by removing the cover, however, the catch tray can't be removed from behind. The only problem is that it's bizarre that anything that spills in the fridge works it's way through the interior and into the catch tray. (we have young kids). The only solution I've been able to find is to drop vinegar in the tray, but now the kitchen smells like vinegar.
so whats the problem?
