Files transferred from pc but won't play on player
I have an old (for an MP3 player) iHP-140 which I've never had any bother with .....until now.
I spent some time last night transferring music from my pc to the player with limited success.
Most of the music, which plays fine on the pc, will not play on the player although the file is there and in wma format as it should be.
When I attempt to play a track it hovers for about 2 secs and just moves onto the next one and so on until the end of the album.
What I can't understand is that some of the stuff I transferred worked fine.
I've tried again today with the same result.

hi there, open iriver again and take new drive out (reinstall hard drive, just an adjustment process). close it up and try to download / play a file.
now if this process dont work, save iriver software to pc and format the hard drive (this will erase the hard drive songs and all)..now reinstall the software from the pc...download your songs back to iriver and you should have a brand new Iriver ihp-140............if heplful feel free to rate
If it is the power switch and it is out of warranty you are out of luck. This happened to mine and iriver will not fix anything not in warranty. Bill in AZ
You can get a replecement on Ebay or at Maplins the spec is
In: 100-240V~50-60Hz 360mA Out: 5V~2A
be careful I once fried an IHP-120 by using the wrong charger. I replaced the battery but taht wasn't the issue. I had it replaced with a IHP-140 and now my old charger has gone too. I got a replacement through the company I bought it from but they have none left.
I just reccommended a company called avsense you can find there info on the iriver website i sent mine with a wont power up and a bad headphone jack 67 dollars later its perfect again !!!! there adress is 4038clipper ct freemont ca 94538 there phone # is 1-510-445-0188
Did you reinstall the firmware? Check to see that you have a file called ihp_120.hex on the root directory. If not, you can download the latest version of the device's firmware from the support page on iriver's website. Otherwise, I suggest you try installing Rockbox firmware (www.rockbox.org).
The H140 needs to be formatted as a fat32 file system for the players firmware to recognise it.
To check which file system you have formatted to connect your player to your pc and go to > my computer >right click on your player > then click on properties. It will tell you what file system you have. Windows will only format to ntfs file systems, so if you need to reformat you will need to download Swissknife http://www.compuapps.com/download/Swissknife/swissknife.htm (its free :-) )and use it to reformat your player.
Not a solution I'm afraid - I have exactly the same problem and did it in the last few days.
I will come back to let you know if I find a solution - if you find one please post it here too.
