I just got a brand new phone because my old phone had display issues. The screen was abnormally bright, sometimes mirroring the image when i recieved a call or text. Also it sometimes went completely white. So now i have this brand new phone and the display is overly bright on this one too. What is up with this???
I had the same problem and I fixed it, but you have to be really careful.
You have to remove the 4 covers for the screw on the top part of the phone when it is open. Just use some type of pick and they come up easily. Unscrew the 4 screws and pry open the cover of the phone closest to the hinge. When you lift that up, there will be a connector on the right side next to the camera lens. Press that down with your finger, I found that mine was loose and when I pressed down it clicked back into place. I know have my display back to normal. Just re-screw the cover down and put the covers over the screw.

It is 9 years old and old technology being plasma. I would suggest you have a number of dry joints on the boards. You have too many individual problems that makes it uneconomical to fix. Time for a new one.
There is no LED on a rear projection television. There are three projection tubes (RED GREEN AND BLUE) and those tubes are mounted in the set and project the image to the mirror and then to the lenticular screen. The issue with brightness could b one of several things. Dust and film accumulate on the tubes and mirror. This causes the image to fade, Also since it has TUBES they age. They are getting hard to find too. The other thing is the adjustments on the set can change over time. There are brightness and contrast settings inside the set that have to be changed and reset after long years of use.

A few things occur to me, if Lamp not recently replaced (2year average life) it may be nearing the end of its life.
Just a few models (not sure if this is one) use two mirrors where most just have one large mirror.
If the issue was gradual you may have the two mirror set, one tiny mirror at bottom of screen area points up and reflects the image into the large mirror in the back of the set which puts it on the screen to view.
If your model has the two mirrors the little one will be coated with dust and such and cuts brightness up to 70%
You can call Mitsubishi and ask if your model has two mirrors or one, if Two mirrors and they will not tell you how to get at them I can.
I think this a problem related to the flex cable that connects the main phone body to the sliding screen. Over time the flex cable wears down as it slides and results in a whole range or problems such as: display acting weird (eg. mirror-image and inverted colours), speaker not working, off-button not working etc.
Flex cables are cheap to buy on ebay (a few dollars) and there's internet sites that show you how to open the phone and replace them. (google: samsung u700 replacement flex cable)
