Burner will not turn off

Hello, i have a GE Spectra radiant range. when i turned on the rear larger burner on the left of the oven the small burner also went on even though i did not turn the knob on for this burner. now the burner will not turn off. it stays on constantly, the only way to turn it off is too unplug the oven completely. i have turned the knob on and off and it still stays on even though the light that indicates the surface unit is on is not lighted.

Exactly the same problem with JBP80W0F2WW. I am not comfortable in opening the appliance. How difficult is it in a scale of 1 to 10?

I am having the same problem, exactly. Front-left burner turns on with the rear-left, then won't turn off. Smell of burning plastic (wire insulation?) Threw the breaker to shut the power, and now need to see about that switch.

This is kind of a scary thing. Why isn't there a recall?

we have a 6 yr old roper electric range that worked fine until a couple weeks ago the back left burner began not turning off the stove has recieved the same problem we unplug it to end the constant burning . what may be the cause of this.... please help

Hey gang - I've had the exact same problem three times - the most recent being just today. I've replaced the switch two other times and am now giving up on it. I also have a bad element, which is something like $100, so we're going to just replace it.
Since we've had it happen multiple times, I believe there is a design flaw in that the control panel is not sealed, but hangs over the actual cooktop. This allows a lot of moisture to flow into the control panel area where the switches are contained. The result being a risk of shorts.

small element inside the large element stays on after knob is off. why?

We had the same problem where the left side of the burners would stay on. My husband was going to change the switch, and the switch wires touch the back panel while the range was still plug and it sparked, now the burners and the oven does not work. Did he blow something out, or do we need to replace the range now?

I will need the complete model #. There should be a sticker near the bottom front behind the drawer. Can't use the # that is on the owners manual.

also, how old is the range?

There are switches behind those knobs called infinite switches. Replace the switch for the rear big burner and the one that is coming on by itself. Make sure power is disconnected and remove the top panel on the back of the oven to get to the switches. Make sure to hook wires up exactly the same way! Go to an appliance parts store and give them the model # and tell them exactly which burners the switches are for because they are all slightly different. Looks like switch part #'s are: WB24T10011 for the largest burner; WB24T10027 for the second largest burner; and WB24T10029 for the small burner.

My GE Spectra (JGBP28BEA4WH) has had a sticky knob (for past year) on one of the front burners, however, today I turned the burner on and it wouldn't turn off. I had the gas company turn off the gas and plug the burner. Any suggestions for repair?

Unable to locate where o re-light the bake burner on this spectra xl44 oven

Your oven does not use a pilot light it has a electric igniter that comes on when the oven is turned on and that is the most common thing thats wrong with a gas oven when it doesn't heat ..that the electric igniter is defective

Cooktop burner doesn't switch between small and large

The burners are controlled by switches, that are the one you turn when you turn the knob. Iwf the burner does not switch to high mode than you need to change the switch.
The switch for your appliance has part number:
You can by the part from manufacturer clicking here.

Here is an exploded view of your kitchen panel.

The switch is indicated with number 3 in the picture, There should be at least ttwo of them, depending on the model. That is what you need to replace.
Its price is $40.50 from GE.

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

No broil or oven cook top works

try checking the ignitor or the thermostat in the oven.

Resettle the small center tops on the burners. If even one is slightly off center or not level, a burner will not light, although it will click. Cost me a service call to learn this!
