On your Sansa, go to "Settings," then "System Settings," then USB Mode, change the mode to MSC, then try it. If that doesn't work try the other modes just in case.
Hope this helps!

I have a SanDisk Sansa model e280r that has frozen. Music was put on there and then it was disconnected from the computer. The player began to refresh and has now stuck.

if this is happening frequently, then you must connect your mp3 player to the computer, then format it. after formatting, connect it to the computer then transfer all the songs. this should fix your problem.

How can you tell if it is a version 1 or 2?

Sansa e200 series has 3 not interchangeable versions of firmware:
  • version 1: e200, firmware starts with v1.xx.xxx
  • version 2: e200v2, firmware starts with v3.xx.xxx
  • version rhapsody: e200r, firmware starts with v1.xx.xxx
Site for the difference between these versions:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/193

The exact type should be on the back of the player: model e280R.
For the rhapsody there is only 1 firmware available.
The zip file can be downloaded here:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmware/rhapsody-1.0.2.165.zip

When another firmware is needed, go to the download firmware wizard on next page and select your model:

Drag droped several mb of mpeg &flv format sansa e280r wont recog

It would be possible for them to play on the computer because it has the capability to do so. It will be playing the files as if a memory stick is plugged. You need to convert those flv videos to a compatible format that the sansa can recognise.

Can't download files from Overdrive files

Make sure that either your Rhapsody or Overdrive subscription is still good and resync all files in Windows Media Player.

If that fails, you'll have to start from scratch:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
-----
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

Some songs sound lifeless on my e280r

There are many settings in Windows Media Player for Ripping music. Make sure yours are set to WMA with 192kbps or higher..

Windows Media Player>Tools>Options>Rip Music (Copy CD).

Best of Luck.
