How do you reset the service engine light on a 2006 vw jetta tdi? I changed the oil now need to shut off dumb light.
With the key in the ignition (but not turned), press and hold the Odometer Reset Button on the right hand side of the panel. While still holding that button, turn the key (although not far enough to start the engine) and then press and hold the Minute button on the left side of the instrument pane(if pressing doesnt work try turning the knob clockwise until service light has gone off and skip the pressing)l. Release both buttons at the same time.
The first solution worked for me. I have a 2006 VW TDI. Try this first. The second solution looks dificult.
I Had the same probleme.....The wires between door and the car are cut !!!!
Remove the boot and redo connections.

Try restarting the computer, disconnect the negative or ground cable from the battery. Turn the headlights on to drain the electricity faster. Wait five minutes then connect it back. The car will have to be driven a bit for the computer to set again. If it comes back on there might be a problem but I doubt that.
Are you nuts? Yes, this may "work", but it is totally the wrong way, and will adversely affect your economy and performance. Just do it the right way, (with the key and zero button) it takes - well, I just did it in less time than it took me to write this response!
Any time you replace any mechanical or electrical part in any vehicle. The battery should be disconnected. At least the negative or ground. With this said I don't know what LunarEngneer is talking about. Its not usually done for fluid replacement. This is done for safety and this resets the computer to adjust for new input. There are different methods and safe. An OBD code reader is a popular way. You can visit your local autoparts store and they usually do it free. Or can purchase onehttp://www.harborfreight.com/can-obdii-c... If you don't want the check engine to come back key/odometer or scanner. But still no guaranty it will not turn on again without a repair. Disconnecting the battery will reset the ECU and let you know if you have a problem. As the ECU will run some test and trigger the check engine light if need be. Then the code can be scanned to point you in the right direction. To get the cause of the problem fixed. Still I'm glad you got it sort out.
