When I am using MSN Live Messenger and starts the webcam it all seems fine. Then after a minute or two the cam stops, and I have to start it again, and the other person must accept it once again. This continues all the time. So the thing is; What can I do to stop the camera from shutting down while im webcaming every 2 minutes in MSN?
Well I actually forgot about this thread but got an email now when u answered. My problem is gone now because I have restored my computer and reinstalled all the drivers including the cam drivers. So it seems to work now..

you can use it in your favorite im app (msn/live messenger/aim/...) or on sites liek stickam or youtube.
to configure your webcam for msn/live messenger in the main window, go to:
Tools> Adjustment of audio and video here cou can configure it to use your cam, then go back to your chat window and click the button to start a cam session (see image) on sites like youtube they use flash, the interface itself usually has a button to start useing your cam, to configure it right click > settings
on the second tab check allow and on the last tab select the right cam and click close. (see image)
est your webcam here to make sure it broadcasts ok - Hit 'Allow' in the top window and check your cam in the left hand panel.

Having proved your cam is working ,you can configure it to WLM (MSN)
CONFIGURE SOFTWARE to MSN Its good practice to disconnect and re-connect your webcam before you start - if you have been using it elsewhere the MSN software may have difficulty in locating it, even if you exited the previous program correctly. The reason being, the webcam software can remain hooked-up to a program and needs to be rebooted. Mine, I just unplug it from the USB and plug it back in to reboot the software. If yours is integral with the computer you will have to re-start the computer, use a keyboard shortcut or disable / enable the webcam from the Device Manager.
Open MSN Click 'Open Menu' From 'Tools; navigate to, and click, 'Audio and Video setup' Set your speakers Click 'Test' - if OK, move on. Set your mic as default Use the slider to set volume and test. Click 'Next' This takes you to the video setup Your webcam should be broadcasting - if not - make sure the webcam is set as default - restart MSN Use 'Webcam Settings'to fine tune the picture. Click 'Finish'
if you have the webcam center opened along with with msn then it wont work on either one of them. you can try these steps tp check if it works for you or not.
1)look for the web cam center system tray icon and right click on it if its there and select exit
and as u said u cant see you self in web cam console --- in webcam console you can only see your self under the doodling tab and only of your webcam is working at that i.e
either you have the webcam center opened or any other messenger or software which turns on your cam then only ull be able to view your cam in webcam console alongside.
After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on Action. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting and follow the instructions.

This might be a compatibility problem between your webcam drivers with the new Windows Live Messenger program. You may want to:
1. Update your webcam drivers and see if Windows Live Messenger can detect it when you run the Audio Video setup from its Tools menu.
2. Or you can downgrade back to the older version of Windows Live Messenger which is compatible for your camera. Doing this however also requires that you uninstall all the Windows Live Beta products from your computer.
Note: You will not see a separate Windows Live Messenger on your Add/Remove programs, instead you will either see there Windows Live Beta products or Windows Live Essentials.
You can download the older versions of Windows Live Messenger from:
First of all, have you verified you are using latest version of MSN messenger. If so and the problem still exists, give one of the other instant messengers a try, say like YM or AIM or any number of others.
What exactly do you mean by ' seems to work '?? Can you see yourself in the cam using whatever software other then MSN that you may have on your computer.
I can use the webcam on Skype but when I close Skype and open Instant Messenger I get a message that the webcam is unplugged or being used by another application.
