If you can get hold of a second Dell Lappy (same model) which is broken (not broken screen) you can swap the broken screen for the good one. It means opening the laptop, but due to the smashed screen the warranty is invalid anyway. There is usually 1 or 2 cables coming from the screen 1 for signal and 1 for power. you can explore the broken lappy to see how the screen connects,

Laptop Screen Repair

The screen will cost at least $200.00 plus labor (approx. $85).

you will need to remove the upper lcd display casing, remove the screen that hold the screen to the bottom lcd display case, and remove the data and inverter cable.

one website that sells screens is:

Replaced screen computer comes on, but screen stays black.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

Dell Latitude

If the system still works on an external monitor and functions normally otherwise, you might be able teo replace the LCD assy for about $150.

If the system no longer works on external either, then I'd say the system is no longer viable as an item to repair as it will be cheaper to replace it then to repair it. (New laptops start at around $500)

Have a broken lcd for a dell inspirion 1500 help!!!!!!

Is your laptop under warranty/extended warranty for accidental damage? If it is inquire from Dell about the procedure to send it to them and getting it fixed click here to get the contact info. If its not under warranty you can inquire Dell for your area dealer/repair shop to get the LCD replaced.
You can also get an estimate for replacing the LCD screen from your local area repair shop to have an idea. In most cases I have seen the technical job performed by the manufacturer is far more superior (Please do not take me wrong, its my experience).
Sorry could not be of much help then to guide you to a right path.
Hope that helped!

Screen was shattered

notebooks like toshiba's are hardware and software specific. Other hardwares will work but not guaranteed to provide full and satisfying results. Drivers may fix the problem. But I suggest you get a orginal Toshiba LCD
