Philips TV lock-up

I have exactly the same problem with Philips 36 inch CRT flat screen. Problem is TV "freeze up" after it has been on for a while. The TV works great, but after being on for some time, none of the controls on the set or on the remote will respond. Can't change channel, adjust the volume, enter menu, or power the set off. The only way to shut it down is to disconnect the power, then It has to sit for several hours (sometimes overnight)(sometimes minutes) before it can be turned back on, then it works perfectly for a while until it locks up again. Any advice I could get would be much appreciated.

my phillips TV does the same thing. it is a 32 in flat screen. the only difference is it goes for weeks working fine then just out of the blue you go to change channel and it freezes. tv and remote wont change channel/sound anything. and the sound goes out during this too but the picture keeps going. I have to unplug it from the wall then plug it back in and it works fine. so far havent had to wait after plugging it back in for it to work. what causes this, does anyone know?

Sounds like you need to get a Green Setup remote but if you are using this privately you will not be able to obtain one to program the tv. They are only available to hotels since the tv's are for commercial use.

SOURCE: Front panel buttons on Philips rear projection do random things

Leaky tact switches on control panel. Part number is 242212802742. Takes 6. They will cost you around 6.00 a piece. Lower front panel pulls off. Be careful as there are two cables attached to htis panel. This should take care of your issues.

I have an old 36 inch widescreen Philips CRT TV which has been working fine for 7 years until yesterday when the whole screen just went blue with a series of white horizontal lines. The audio is still OK...

Hello
Since there is a blue screen atleast, I don't think that the picture tube is gone. The fault may be either to its chroma IC or video output section. In both sections fault cases, this type of horizontal lines [parellel to each other at about 1 inch or so apart the entire screen] will be seen. Just check the voltages at the three cathode, ie, red, blue and green of the piclture tube. This can be measured at the picrture tube neck card. If you have through knoledge in electronics, have patience and enough tools to do the work, inform me through Fixya. Without these, you can't work on a tv, especially in Philips.
Otherwise, get it checked by any expereinced service technician. OK.

My 36" Flat-screen CRT Philips TV turns itself off

I'm getting the exact same thing with a 26" model. First I found AV2 started carrying AV1's input so we put a switch in. Then it starts to shut off with the twice blinking light after viewing the scart input for a while. I'm currently trying feeding it scart set to composite rather than RGB to see if it'll stay on. One other thing - I just got a oneforall remote. I don't suppose you did - in case that is triggering something?

People are reporting a fault with the "painter" chip which is terminal usually. But that seems to manifest as the tv switching to scart input spontaneously. I haven't seen that.

Hope you get somewhere - I'll let you know if I find anything.

Phillips hd 55 inch

It could be either place probably on the back of the screen itself. If it were on the picture tubes it would be big. You'll have to take the back off and check it. Stargazer
