Microwave not working

The microwave suddenly will not work. The clock is on, the interior light works but the only key that makes a noise is the stop/clear.I thought it accidentaly was locked and tried holding numerous keys- the stop/clear key eventally put a little L on the screen even though the lock sign is on the start key. I tried unplugging. I have not figured it out + I no longer have the manual since I've never needed it in the 8+ years I've had it.

The light is on, the clock is working, the minutes keep rolling when I press the buttons but no sound and no turning and no heating.

The oven, toaster and broiler work fine. The light and fan come on with the microwave, but the turntable is still and the microwave does not heat up the food. It is a Rival MT660. I have seen posts regarding unlocking the microwave, but I don't know how to do that, or if it is related. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The clock works fine. The microwave works for about 6 seconds and stops.

My problem is quite similiar. My JVM1410 GE Microwave does not heat. All lights and controls seem to work, the fan starts, the table turns, and you hear what you think is the heater working but absolutely no heat. This failure was instantaneous with no warning, it just suddenly does not heat.

    Thank you for your time.

The microwave suddenly stopped working. The clock is on, the interior light works but the only key that makes a noise is the stop/clear. No other seconds or minutes or start key is working.

I will suggest that just turn off power and turn on again. Since Microwave is built into the wall, you may need to switch off and on power supply from outside your house.

This may have already been dealt with, but others can benefit from an accurate, thoughtful reply to this problem.

It's still possible that it is locked, even though you unplugged it. The brand and model would help us help you better.

It's also possible that you have a bad door switch. SOme brand and models won't let you proceed if the controller thinks the door is open.

I really doubt that the board is bad. That's not how they usually fail.

Please write back with your brand and model number if you need further help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sounds like the control board is bad. With the cost of a new board it would be better to replace the microwave. When dealing with microwaves, they have very high voltage parts and only qualified technicians should check them. In most cases, with labor charges, they are too expensive to repair.

SOURCE: microwave not working

It might be helpful to tell us the brand and model number, but I think I can answer this one either way.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

Microwave key pad stopped working

Okay, thank you for that.

You have a failed membrane keypad, but on this model, it is not available separately.

You would need to order the control panel assembly, part # WB56X10817, which you can get here for far less than GE charges.

It costs more than just a membrane would, but is much simpler to replace.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you remove your circuit board from the old frame and install it in the new frame.

JVM1190 wont cook

You have a blown actuator. This is the device that creates the microwaves that cook the food. The cost of one of these will be as much as a new unit.

Clock on Microwave

Normally on a Sharp, one of these key combinations will do it:

CLOCK > 1 > 2 > 3 > CLOCK

CLOCK > 1 > 2 > 3 > START

CLOCK > CLEAR > 1 > 2 > 3 > CLOCK

CLOCK > CLEAR > 1 > 2 > 3 > START

Let us know if this does not work.

Goldstar Microwave

Could be the relay, an internal fuse. With the power off, open up the key panel and search for a fuse. Also, there are thermo sensors black, diameter of a dime and 3/8 inch thick with two wires. Check the fuse and replace if necessary. The thermo can be jumped out to test. Remove the wires, use a paper clip between them and tape it up. Briefly turn the unit on. Replace if it works now. The thermo is generally clamped to the wall of the oven behind the key panel. Never run without the thermo sensor.
