SONY DSC-W50 Focus issues

Hi.. I use my camera daily and take about 30 shots each day. I have this camera repaired once for a drop and the lens getting stuck and it was great after that for awhile. Recently I have noticed that my pictures indoors (very bad) and outdoors (not near as clear as when this was new) they are not sharp, crisp or true colors any more. I did the half press with it set on auto and can hear the motor run for what I consider a long time of several seconds or so trying to focus. Is it time for a new camera or is it a fixable issue?

Hi rmodel

If you had the lens replaced the repair agency is supposed to adjust what is referred to as the Back Flange adjustment. Without getting to technical it is the reference point that your camera needs to focus on objects at different distances.

The problem you are referring to is typical of a faulty adjustment or an adjustment never being made for the new lens.

Take it back, let them fix it.

P.S . Please just first check that the lens is clean, a finger print on the lens opening could also give you this type of problem.

Best of luck
Dawiem

Hello,

Bummer huh? I dropped mine a while back and damaged my battery cover!

I would try...taking out the batteries and reinstalling them! This may reset your camera?

Otherwise, I would do a web search and type in:

Hope this helps you get your camera working again!

Kind Regards!

Zoomlens stuck

Examine the lens carefully. you will see that the outer lens is out of line with the inner lens. . hold the camera firmly with one hand using the fingers of the second hand firmly nudge the outer lens back in line. reinsert battery and test.
Good luck,

It's probably stuck focus. Contact your local Sony service center, but if they ask too much, you can contact me at [email protected] and I will give you a good price.

My camera lens won't focus, so the camera just shuts itself off

Its possible the lens is out of alignment. There are things you can do yourself to try and remedy this. but only attempt if you feel confident. Or you can send the camera into sony to be repaired, or an independant repair shop. Thanks,

Sounds like you have two problems, both which mean bad news. The clicking could be a broken gear in the lens unit or off track lens.
The colors may be caused from a bad ccd or sensor internally.

I dropped my Sony DSC-W50 camera with the photo shot mode

Some problem in the lens system.
Try to either push in the lens more, or pull on it, if the lens is out at all.
If it continues, sell it for parts, as is on a site such as Ebay.

My sony dsc-w50 camera won't totally boot up

It is a fairly regular occurance at our shop to see a Sony camera which, when you turn it on, extends and retracts the lens slightly several times and then says "turn the power off then on again". We were unable to find the cause of this issue for quite a while and ended up forwarding cameras with this problem to Sony for repair. Recently one of our techs found the issue to be a "lazy" focus motor. The motor was still functioning, however it was not functioning 100% and did not perform as the camera expected, causing the error. This is not necessarily the issue with your camera, but it is likely given how many Sony's we have seen doing this. If the camera is under warranty, definately send it in. If it is not, find another repair provider as Sony will charge you quite a bit for the repair. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
