I have a samsung hd tv model # hLn617w
The TV turns on and 3 lites flash, the temp, lamp,&timer lite. the manual tells me the 3 flashing lites indicate the lamp buld need replacing ? I got this TV for free from Craig list it is only 2 1/2 yr old.
I am trying to figure how to test the lamp, see if this is really the problem ?
wehn i tutn the tv on it seems to sound like it is getting warmed up to turn on and nothing happens except the 2 flashing lights..no picture at all comes on ?
Is this possible the problem ?
I see the bulbs range in price from $99 to $240 - why the high cost and why auch a price variant?
Thank you very much for helping me solve this problem

It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the
metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly
will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a
small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out
and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass
the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then
that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv
on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular
picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30
seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass
the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv
first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire
Sound like ur tv have two problems. The "lamp"LED light flashes, mean ur tv need a new projection bulb. The loud refrigerator sound, mean the tv colors wheel is dead,it spinning off of it axes motor.Hire a tv repairman to do this the colors wheel is hard change, because require take out many machanicals parts even to get to the colors wheel to change. The bulb is easy replaced, but he there pay him to put new one in.
Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.
