Staples penetrate, but do not bend

This is a desk stapler so may not be in your realm of expertise since it is not heavy duty. I have a Swingline 211xx electric stapler. When I staple, it does not release. I pull the paper out and it has penetrated the paper, but has not bent the staple around the paper. I am using Singline S.F.4 premium staples with a chisel point from the professional Plus series.

Thanks, but mine is not adjustable.

  • Anonymous May 18, 2009

Same problem here...plus I can't figure how to get the thing open to fix it.

  • bonniejaned May 23, 2009

It sounds as if it is stapling twice and then will not turn lose of the paper. The trigger device does not appear to be adjustable. I think I will have to give up.

I was able to remove the bottom plate, but it only exposed the wiring and connectors. The top housing did not come off and I have searched for a way to remove the housing with no result. I do appreciate your determination.

If you unscrew 4 bottom screws to lift the top cover, you may find out that there are 2 orange rubbers above its hammer that broke and needs to be replaced.

Check the bottom plate. Directly below where the staple exits the staple head is where the staple is forced into a grove where it is bent back onto itself .. Check to see if its in the proper position .. some are adjustable   Good luck

Staples don't close on heavy duty stapler?

Usually the plate will swivel 180 degrees to give an open staple for easy removal, or a closed staple for permanent fastening.

Push up from underneath and turn it.

Where do I get staples for a B&D stapler? #9700

There are several brands of staples that will fit your stapler and the price will vary according to the depth of staple you are looking to buy. Arrow brand staples are the most common. All the ones I saw that fit the 9700 are Wide Crown Swingline Heavy Duty

Swingline optima 40 how do you open and close the stapler?

Swingline heavy duty staplers provide the power to staple up to 120 pages of 20-lb. paper easily and consistently. The all-metal construction of these staplers makes them an indispensible office tool. However, the way to load staples into a Swingline heavy duty stapler differs from the method for loading most other manual staplers and can cause a little confusion.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

    • 1 Remove the follow block at the back of the stapler by pushing the mechanism in, lifting the block up over the holding hooks and sliding it out from the stapler. The follow block is the spring-loaded mechanism that holds the staples in place within the stapler.
    • 2 Load the heavy-duty staples into the staple tray.
    • 3 Replace the follow block by inserting it back into the stapler and locking it into place over the holding hooks.

Trying to load the staples into a model #90010. They're fine except at the very front of the stapler, they wont go all the way down flush with the others and the chamber won't even close.

1. Make sure you have the correct staples for the machine, Swingline Hvy-Duty Staples for 90010 Stapler, 0.625-Inch Leg Length, 2500 per Box (90009)

2. Check the staples to make sure there are no visible jams. Remove some staples from the row if this helps them fit.

3. If you continue to have problems, contact the manufacturer at http://www.acco.com/swingline/, or

They will replace the stapler if needed.

Instructions on how to load a swingline heavy duty stapler.

You pull up and back on the stapler head. Then pull out the spring that keeps the staples loaded. Be careful as the spring is very strong. Then put in the staples and put the spring back in behind the staples.

Instructions on unjamming swingline electric stapler model 270; jam is at the front of the stapler; staplers come out either broken, flaten or crooked and does not secure document.

First, are you using the recommended staples for this stapler? Many heavy duty electric staplers don't use "standard" desk staples. Second, try unplugging the stapler, unloading the staples, and if possible, reach a couple of fingers into the stapler and try manually pushing up on the staple head to see if you can get the driver blade to come down. Does it come down smoothly, or does it seem like there is something stuck in there? If you aren't sure about disassembling the unit (my usual method-but I'd recommend having the parts diagram handy), try using a flashlight to look at the underside of the staple head, where the staples come out - can you see anything stuck in there? If so, you might be able to use a small knife blade or small dental pick to get jammed staple pieces out.

Swingline Stapler Staples Only After You Open It Up....

When you lift up the top of the stapler (as though you are going to put staples in), does the pusher slide freely back and forth? It might be getting stuck at some point and not pushing the staples (either due to a worn pusher spring, or friction). First (after removing the staples) try spraying some light oil on the mechanism and lifting the top part of the stapler up and down a few times and observe how easily it moves back and forth. Also, with the top open try GENTLY sliding back and forth a little - if it slides fine with no sticking, try loading staples and using stapler. If it slides ok, but doesn't quickly return to it's "normal position" when pulled so as to put tension on the spring, rhen the spring may be worn and need replacing.
