Below is a detailed guide about how to extract audio for iPod shuffle...
Step1. Run Daniusoft DVD to iPod Converter.

Step2. Click the "Add…" button, find the DVD folder of the movie you want to add from your hard disc or DVD-ROM, open your DVD folder, select the VIDEO_TS folder and click OK.
Tip: If you just want to get certain segment of the audio, you can trim the DVD movie before conversion.
Step3. Select "MP3" as output format from the format dropdown list and Hit "start" and this smart program will do the rest for you!
Finally, after finishing the conversion, you can begin to add the video/audio files from DVDs to your iPod nano or iPod shuffle. First, launch iTunes, click File option on menu, and import your converted files to iTunes library. Then, connect your iPod nano or iPod shuffle to computer via USB cable, iTunes will detect your iPod. After that, click iTunes "File -> Sync iPod", and the files from DVDs will be transferred to your iPod Nano/shuffle from iTunes library.
Syncing music using Autofill to iPod shuffle
Connect iPod shuffle to your computer and open iTunes.
Select iPod shuffle in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window.
In the main iTunes browser window, select the Contents tab.
Choose a playlist, folder, or your music library from the Autofill from menu. Click Settings to adjust how Autofill chooses songs as well as to allocate space for disk use.
When you click the Autofill button, iTunes will automatically sync as much music as possible to iPod shuffle. If the playlist you selected contains more music than iPod shuffle can hold, Autofill will sync a subset of the music. The iTunes LCD will display the sync progress and notify you when the iPod sync is complete.
If you have turned on disk use, disconnect iPod shuffle by selecting it under Devices and clicking the eject icon (iPod shuffle is ready to be disconnected when the status light stops flashing).
Syncing music manually to iPod shuffle
If you prefer not to use Autofill to sync music to your iPod shuffle, you can manually sync music instead.
Connect iPod shuffle to your computer and open iTunes.
Select your Music, Podcasts, or Audiobooks Library or a playlist on the left side of the iTunes window.
Select one or more pieces of audio content and drag them to the iPod shuffle icon under Devices.
If you have turned on disk use, disconnect iPod shuffle by selecting it under Devices and clicking the eject icon (iPod shuffle is ready to be disconnected when the status light stops flashing).
THE ABOVE STEPS ONLY WORK ON FIRST AND SECOND GENERATION SHUFFLES. For Third generation shuffles see below.
Syncing music and podcasts automatically
Connect iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window.
In the main iTunes browser window, select the Music tab.
Select the checkbox labeled "Sync music".
You have the option to sync all songs and playlists or selected playlists. Your iPod will need to have enough free space to sync the content that you have selected from your library. Tip: You can use the capacity bar at the bottom of the iPod settings window to determine how much free space is available. The size of a playlist can be determined by selecting it and looking at the bottom of the iTunes window.
Podcasts can also be automatically synced to iPod. Select the Podcasts tab and choose to sync all podcasts or selected ones. You can also determine which episodes are synced based on if they are recent, new, or unplayed.
Click Apply and iTunes will begin syncing the audio content you've selected to your iPod. The iTunes LCD will display the sync progress and notify you when the iPod sync is complete.
To disconnect your iPod, select it under Devices, and click the eject icon.
Syncing music manually
If you prefer not to automatically sync music content to your iPod, you can set up manual syncing.
Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window.
In the main iTunes browser window, select the Summary tab.
Select the "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music" option. This will deselect the automatic sync settings for the Music, Movies, and TV Shows tabs. Automatic syncing for Podcasts, Photos, Contacts, and Games can be individually disabled by selecting each of those tabs. Note: When manually managing iPod, disk use is enabled and iPod must always be manually ejected in iTunes before disconnecting.
Click Apply.
To manually add music, audiobooks, movies or TV shows to your iPod, choose one of these categories under Library on the top left of the iTunes window.
Select and drag items you want (to choose multiple items, Command-click items on a Mac or Control-click items in Windows), then drag them onto your iPod icon under Devices.
To add a playlist, select it from the left side of the iTunes window and drag it onto your iPod in the same way.
When you are ready to disconnect your iPod, select it under Devices, and click the eject icon.
Syncing music with Autofill
When the "Manually manage" option is enabled, you can use Autofill to quickly sync audio content from your music library or a selected playlist. Autofill settings allow you to adjust how songs are selected for syncing as well as allocate space for disk use. To use Autofill, make sure your iPod is set to manually manage music using steps 1-5 above and then follow the steps below.
Select iPod in the Devices section on the left side of the iTunes window.
Click the triangle next to the iPod icon to reveal the contents of the IPod.
Select the Music library for the iPod and review the Autofill settings at the bottom of the main iTunes window.
When you click the Autofill button, iTunes will automatically sync as much music as possible to your iPod. If the playlist you selected contains more music than your iPod can hold, Autofill will sync a subset of the music. The iTunes LCD will display the sync progress and notify you when the iPod sync is complete.
Disconnect iPod by selecting it under Devices and clicking the eject icon. Then disconnect the USB cable.
SOURCE: iPod shuffle
just to clarify.. you have installed itunes on your computer and are using itunes to transfer songs? this is how it is done
SOURCE: jow do i put songs on ipod shuffle
There should be a cable that was included that has a USB connector on one side, and what appears to be a headphone connector on the left side.
1. Connect the headphone-like connector into the headphone jack on the ipod shuffle.
2. Connect the USB connector on the other end of the cable into the computer.
3. Start iTunes (if iTunes does not start automatically)
4. Drag music from your iTunes library to the device that appears on the left side
Alternatively, you can change the settings on the iPod to automatically sync with your library, or with a specific playlist that you make. To do so:
(steps 1-3 remain the same)
4a. Select your device on the list to the left above your playlists but below your music/video/etc libraries
5a. Click the Music tab from the screen that appears when you select your device
6a. Check the box that says "Sync Music" and you may either leave at it this to automatically sync your ipod with your music library (what is in your music library will be on your ipod) OR check a box next to the playlist you want from the list that becomes available when you checkmark "Sync Music"
