NO SOUND AFTER BIOS REPLACEMENT ------------------------------- Recently replaced my system BIOS and re-installed the OS. I have an AMD processor, so I installed all relevant drivers/software too. The sound card isn't functioning. There is no sound output from my PC. The hardware engineer here has suggested adding an external sound card which i don't want to unless i ensure that its the only way out. Below is the BIOS information: ? DMI.BIOSInformation: Vendor Name: Phoenix Technologies, LTD BIOS Version: ASUS A8N-E ACPI BIOS Revision 1005 BIOS Starting Address Segment: E000h BIOS Release Date: 06/08/2005 BIOS ROM Size: 512 KB ? Add-on BIOS detected: Nvidia Corp Version 1.00 Located @C50000 Init Entry Point @C50050 Size 59kb --- please help ----!!!!

Many thanks for your time. The device manager does detect the audio and manipulate the settings. I was able to record my voice too but could not play it back. I ran a scan from the phoenix site (BIOS manufacturer) n was suggested driver updates by them too. 12 hrs is what it took for the entire download etc(it was 150mb+). However this was turning out long and expensive so, i settled for 300 rupee($6)sound card instead. Thanks again. You guys are awesome, i wasn't really expecting such a prompt reply.

Many thanks for your response. Due to time/bandwidth constraints I did not download the drivers (100MB+ size download takes eternity at my current internet speed). Instead, I added an external sound card. Just to add, the onboard audio was identified by the system and i was allowed to modify its settings such as vol etc. Also, I was able to record my voice but unable hear it back.

You'll want to verify that the onboard audio is enabled within the bios first, beyond that the audio codecs for that mobo should be the Realtek AC97 drivers, go to this link to obtain them. You have a choice of two - the AC97 standard codecs or the HD codecs (I would probably try the HD codecs first). I would also be curious as to whether the audio hardware is showing up in the device manager at all (especially if it has the yellow exclamation point next to it).

Based on what you posted about a bios update being the catalyst I would definitely check the onboard audio enabled within the bios option first...

Please post a little more info (especially about what the device manager says) or your results from the reinstall of the AC97 drivers...

Sound Issues

You can start with checking for the most recent BIOS version and sound card drivers, as well as settings in the BIOS, to ensure all is up to date, enabled, and compatible with the OS.

HI. I ve a NEC versa pro VA12J. When i start my laptop it starts with beep sound and shows BIOS screen with an error message: 0251: system CMOS checksum bad- default configration used. During this period,...

This "0251" error indicates that the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor; a memory chip that holds data the computer needs each time it starts, such as the current time and the BIOS [Basic Input/Output System]) has become corrupted or damaged, typically because of one of these three reasons: A BIOS update has gone awry, a recently installed program incorrectly modified the BIOS, or the computer battery is running out of power.

If you recently upgraded the BIOS, the first thing you should do is edit the BIOS settings. The BIOS developer can help you access the BIOS Setup utility and configure the BIOS accordingly. Likewise, if you recently installed a program that may have modified the BIOS, contact the software developer for assistance in reconfiguring the BIOS for the new program.
If you did neither of these things, the culprit is probably a faltering battery. You can probably replace the battery on your own, but the process varies widely depending on the type and age of the computer. We suggest consulting the documentation that came with your computer or contact the computer manufacturer to determine the type of battery involved, where to purchase a new one, and how to replace it. You can also access the BIOS Setup utility and write down the BIOS settings to reconfigure the BIOS correctly after installing the replacement battery. Once the new battery is in place, you will have to reconfigure the BIOS and reset the system time, but the error message shouldn't appear again.

hope this helps

I recently got my computer fix but it came back with no audio.

Hi,

Did you check that compatible driver for your audio device is installed Properly? Go to Device Manager and verify. if there is yellow marked device error with name of Audio/Sound you need to update this driver.

Go to;
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_E521&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Download and install/update this driver, reboot your system and check audio output. Hope this will work for you.

Best of Luck,

Installation stops

Jonags,

NTLDR is the NT Loader basically the instructions the bios needs to start your Operating system.
If it is not finding the NTLDR it could be due to a couple of things.

First thing I'd do is to check that the install disc is a full install disc for the OS and not an Upgrade disc.

If it IS a full OS disc then we need to enter the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) Usually done by hitting <Delete> or <F12> during boot up. Once in the BIOS there should be an option for "Boot order" we need to set it so that your optical drive (CD/DVD) is listed as the 1st entry in the boot order. press <F10> to save and exit. Put the CD/DVD in your drive and boot up your computer.

this should get you started with your installation.
If it does not, you likely have a faulty optical drive.
Please post your results so we can further assist you.

Thanks
Dave

No sound on A770M-A

Hi Lyubomir, there are a few things I'd like you to check. It's always suggested to clear the cmos/bios after purchasing a new board. The Mfg, make changes in the bios & they do not clear the bios when they finish. So please reset your cmos/bios jumper pg. 9, in your manual. Boot system & enter bios. Go over your settings & change as needed. When you come to Plug & Play OS choose No. This allows the bios to place IRQ's instead of windows. Also make sure your Onboard AUDIO Function is set to, (Enabled). When fiished save & exit bios. Double check pg. 43 for information spec's for the HD audio driver.
Try installing sound software again. If it still fails or barks the same error message try installing through device manager & point windows to the correct driver folder & OS located on your ESC driver CD. If it still fails. Run windows update untill there are no updates left for software or hardware.
