My Frigidaire oven model PLMV169DCD has developed a defect

My microwave oven Frigidaire PLMV169DCD has stopped working. Most of the electrical functions continue to operate as expected. The clock is on and correct, the extraction fan works on both speeds. The work top illumination is operational. however, activating any kind of cook/heat function cause the internal light to come and the turntable to rotate, but very slowly. No heat is generated. An appliance engineer said charged me $80 to say the control board is blown and I need a new one. Looks like a new board is about $166, and I have my doubts it will fix the issue given so many other control functions are still operational. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't want to throw money at it unless I'm sure its worth it.

The only real issue with the control board that could cause that is a failing relay or bad connection, both of which I can repair on a control board for $54.95, which includes insured return shipping.

The first thing I would do is test the outlet. A toaster or hair dryer are good devices to use.

A microwave must be on its own breaker, or at least not on the same breaker as a high-current device (stove) or a device that causes spikes on the line (fridge, freezer).

It's possible you have a failing magnetron or high-voltage transformer, but I would need to discuss it to narrow it down.

SOURCE: My fan nor lights work on my Frigidaire microwave PLMV168KC4

Assuming you're talking about the hood vent exhaust fan and the cooktop lights, my solution is below. If not, please write back with details.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

What you are saying the microwave stop work like heating, but but the clock counts down.If it is stop heating then there is a rest on or near the magtrogron.Once it cools down it start back heating.Open and close the door will reset power to the magtrogen{sorry about the spelling].Look for loose connector,or replace the click zon it should have a small red buttom on it.

SOURCE: I have a Frigidaire Microwave oven CFMV156DBA. The

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

If the switch mount is broken, it's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

The stainless steel face on my over the range microwave is coming loose. It is attached to the door with a foam tape. I am trying to identify the right kind of appliance rated foam to re-adhere it.

Microwaves are trapped within the oven cavity and do not enter the area outside of it. Metal reflects microwaves as does the mesh across the oven door. You can buy a strip of adhesive foam of reasonable density from your local hardware store which will serve the purpose.

Where is the fuse on my microwave Electrolux PLMV169DCD located?

We have three service manuals covering the PLMV169 series, which you can download free:

http://www.microwavedisplay.com/plmv169dcc_sm.pdf
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/glmv169_plmv169_sm.pdf
http://www.microwavedisplay.com/glmv169_plmv169_late_prod_sm.pdf

They're all pretty similar.

You can usually find parts from the Pros here.

If not, contact Electrolux at the phone number on the front of the service manual.

It may be the C/T fuse (thermal fuse located above the magnetron) or the oven cavity thermal cutout, located on the top of the cavity.

Accessing these two parts for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Electrolux / Frigidaire owner's manuals and installation instructions
here.

It may also be that there was a power surge which damaged the control circuit board, activating the built-in surge protection.

This is not resettable. The circuit board has to be repaired. We do that for $39.95, details here.

Frigidere PLMV169DCD

You most likely had a power surge and blew a fuse. First unplug the unit, then remove the top grill. There will either be one screw on top of the control pad or 2 on the left side. open the control panel and look for a fuse that has a ceramic center and replace it with a 20 amp one. You can find these at the hardware store
