TV works OK (other than the pop noise).

It sounds that any electrolytic capacitor at its main power regulator section have bursted out, due to a over-voltage. Contact any service technician. To get more details, http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the info and speedy response, Sasi. Any idea what might be causing the "over-voltage?" I don't want to replace caps, only to have other components fail. The TV is 10+ years old. So, should all the larger caps be replaced? Other than the pop noise, the TV is working OK. If possible, I want to repair it myself. I've worked on some TVs and have good soldering skills, but not much troubleshooting experience.

Hi Maer, If TV works normal, and you hear a pop sound from its speaker, when you switch it ON, it seems not to be a fault. Sometimes the mute section of the audio output or audio processor section have failed. It will be best not to go further, because, the spare parts to these sets are very difficult to get now. You can check all the solder terminals at the audio processor section. That is all to do.

Hi Sasi, Thanks for the advice. Here's exactly what's happening when the TV is turned on. The power light flashes red four times. Then, the TV makes the popping sound. Then, the power light flashes red five times, pauses, and flashes red five times again and the picture appears. If the sound is turned all the way down when the TV is turned off, no pop occurs when the TV is turned back on. I think that means that you're correct about something in the audio section having failed. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. As I said, if the volume is turned down when the TV is turned off, no pop occurs when the TV is turned back on. Does that mean you're right about the TV having an audio problem? I had already visited the site. It's great! But, I didn't find any blinking codes for my Sony TV or related TVs. (I only included the Standby LED blinking information in case that was important.) Thanks again for all your help and patience.

Runco TV turned on made a loud pop and now will not stay turned on

Capacitors blew most likely. Take it to a repair shop or learn to open and replace the caps yourself. Could be a fun project.

Buzz across all channels in crate rfx120

I also have this issue. Same crate combo amp. There is a loud buzz emitted only when there is a cable plugged in. Cables and instruments checked good, only possible issue is inside the input of the amp. Popped it open, solders and connections were intact and appeared solid. Anyone have a guess as to why this is happening?

Our tv made a loud pop/crack sound and went

look take the back cover off and look at the pwr fuse its located near the main on/off switch .replace if blown. before you switch back on is the set damp free you could have an ht leak so warm back of set make sure its perfectly dry an hair dryer works well but don't hold too close to single components.if all this works cover set at night with a towel over the air vents when not in use to avoid moisture on line transformer. this answer would work with an ht leak .but the problem could lie elsewhere . good luck farr64

Tv went out after loud pop and has clicking noise does not turn on

If you have a Sony DLP, then the loud pop you heard is your lamp.  The lamps last approx. 4K-6K viewing hours.  Read your manual for replacement part number to reorder and very simple to replace yourself.

Problem with Toshiba DLP Projection TV Model #52HM84

It is possible the lamps may be defective or that they may be the wrong replacement for this model, as it may have a different wattage setup with the ballast. If you want to try to order the TB25 lamp from a different vendor, you can order the original Toshiba replacement lamp for this model (52HM84) from a major Toshiba parts distributor at the link below:

TV made a loud pop

hi,

sounds like a popped power capacitor, its going to have to go to the shop most likely around 100.00 repair. taking the back off yearly and airdusting them helps, especially if you have a smoker in the house. caution high voltage present even when off, the heavy single red wire going to the tube is high voltage be careful.
