My HP scanjet 4600 scanner stopped in the middle of a scan. I have already tried the HP patches and the hardware reset but I cannit get the scanner to respond in any way. The power light does not come on.
Although I can not be sure without testing it, the most common problem with this type of issue is that the power supply adapter has failed. According to the manual (posted at http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00215714/c00215714.pdf) this scanner has an external power adapter. Since you indicate that the scanners light does not come on, I would be inclined to believe that power adapter needs to be replaced. However, before you go and buy a new one, I would suggest you get the current adapter tested with a volt meter to determine if it is outputting the correct voltage and amperage.
If you discover that the power adapter has failed, you may be able to simply replace it in order to get the scanner up and running again. However please take note that depending on what part of the adapter circuit failed, its failure could possible have also damaged the scanner's internal circuits. However, if you find after testing that the adapter is outputting the correct voltage and amperage, then the problem would most likely be a scanner board circuitry failure.
If you are saying that you have connected that same adapter to a different scanner and it worked ok, then my guess is that since the scanner's power light will not come on, something has occurred to the internal circuitry of the scanner that is preventing it from getting power from the adapter.
Another common problem is a "broken" adapter female connector. I have replaced many female connectors on laptops (they seem to be easily broken by having the cord yanked on) when the adapter is working ok but the laptop will not power up or charge. In these cases, stress on the connector has "broken" a piece of the connector housing causing it not to make a good connection to the male end of the power adapter. If the scanner is still under warrenty you may be able to get it repaired for free or inexpensively by HP, otherwise, you will probably need to take it to a PC repair lab to determine if the female adapter is broken or if the scanner has an internal circuitry failure.
You might try eBay... I have had fairly good luck with locating new or used parts for PCs and laptops there ... also you might Google it ... just type in the scanner model and "boards" to see what comes up.

Thanks for your answer but I also have a 4670 scanjet and the power adapter works on that machine.
Do you where I can get a new scanner board circuit
