I left the freezer door open by mistake for 24 hrs and everything melted. it is now 2 days later and the freezer wont freeze anything. is my freezer broken? also, my fridge doesnt keep things as cold as it used to. it still comes on and makes the regular noise and the lights are on. is my fridge ruined?
Try removing everything out of your fridge, switch it off and open all doors for 12 hrs. Then close doors and switch it on for another 24 hrs before putting in you stuff. most likely the evaporator is iced up, you need to defrost if fully.

You will need to unplug and defrost the fridge for a few hours then replug the power. Leaving the doors open allows moisture to freeze on the evaporator while compressor continues to run confusing the control board APPLIANCE911
Your drain is plugged. Basically the freezer goes into defrost and melts frost off the condenser coils. A big piece most likely fell off and freezer came out of defrost before it coulld melt and drain out completely. To fix you have 2 options. Have towels
#1- move contents of fridge and freezer to a backup fridge. Leave unpluged with doors slightly opened for 24 to 48 hrs. Use towels to cleanup any water. Plug back in wait 2 hrs to make sure temp gets back down before putting contents back in fridge.
#2- Remove contents from fridge and put in ice chest. Have towels ready. Remove ice maker ( if there is one) usually two screws on top hard to see and one on bottom. Disconnect the quick connect for the ice maker. Remove screw on back wall. Be careful when removing air vent on back wall. Its plastic and can break. Remove back panel. Look on the silver plate under coils and you will see ice and where the drain is. Remove ice than pour hot hot water down drain until it flows freely into drain pan under fridge by compressor. It may look like there is not ice make sure othyerwise you will be doing this all over again in a few days. Once water flows freely put everything back together wait about 2 hrs for freezer temp to get cold enough and than you can put contents back in freezer. If the freezer or fridge door remains open for one hour or few more hours by mistake, then to again get to its proper cooling cycle, it requires approx another 24 hours. And in that also, dont open the refrigerators doors for few hours. If you open, close it quickly.Once it cooling cycle again gets set, then you can use it like you use regularly. But approx it takes 24 hours to get proper cooling.--------
But if its already more then 24 hours and there is very low cooling, then it can be internal defrost cycle issue. You will have to do manual reset procedure. The manual reset procedure is as follows:--------
First unplug the unit from
main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors
open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the
freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections.
Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24
hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section.
It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then
check,it will get set to its cooling cycle and work as normal.-------------This should
There are 2 vents. The one on the top to allow air from the freezer into the fridge. There is a second one, a return on the bottom left that allows the air to return to the freezer.
The return vent is the one that is blocked. (iced up).
On your model, it is very difficult to melt the ice out especially using heat due to all the plastic and foam.
Although ugly, it is best to unplug the machine, and leaving both doors open fo 24 hours.
You have 2 fans Make sure your top fan is working ,its located inside the freezers back wall. If it is working the vent from the freezer down to the refrigerator may be blocked. With out a fan you have no circulation .Also if you can move everything out unplug it turn it off w/ doors open 12 to 24 hrs this will free up any clogged tubes. Good luck. Len West
sounds like you sucked in a lot of warm air over night freezer still working? just the refrig went out???easiest solution empty unit completly, unplug and leave doors open let al frost melt out 24 hrs later plug back in and you should be find
if door was left open for some time, there may be excess ice build-up on the evaporator which may take more than 2 hours to clear.
two methods to cure
