I have sony NW-A607 1GB, but i cant able to run the songs in it as i lost the CD and when i put songs in it through my laptop and the run them in it, i have also formated the same even then i can make it out.

Try converting your music to mp3 format. maybe you were running a music of wma format just convert it to mp3 format before copying it to your mp3 player ok .send me a message for more concerns.

Once u lost ur music library in the computer u cant retrieve the data from the device. Always update the software to the latest.Dont go for the Connect Plus it stupid and u will not reach anywhere. Go for Sonic Stage is also from Sony. If u have still connecting probs data might be corrupted. Do the initialization
The Installation CD is not required. You just open the player folder and drag your songs onto the windows.
Just in case if unable to show device icon: If you have Windows 95 or 98, you may want to upgrade to later versions of Windows (2000, XP, Vista or later).
the song might not work because of how your trying to put on the mp2 player. Some mp3 players you cant just use the windows media player you have to open the player main device by open two sepert folders and drag and drop the song or album you want into the folder.
