1.) make sure that you have all of the needed stuff
a.) cd rom that came with the printer (must have)
b.) usb cable to connect to pc
2.) set up everything but do not plug in printer yet
3.) insert cd rom in pc and follow the promps
4.) somewhere in the beginning it will ak you to connect your usb cable up
5.) turn on the power to the printer and make sure it is online
Thats it it should only take like 15 minutes to get it all going
You say your HP Laser Jet 1010 USB cable does not connect to your PC? Let's see if you have the right cable. Go to the site below and look at the picture. It is a standard USB cable which fits in the USB slots in PC's.
1 Insert the installation CD into the drive. 2 Welcome... will appear. Click Install. 3 Accept the License Agreement, and click Continue. 4 Install Additional Software will appear. Make your selection and click Continue. 5 Setting Up a New Printer? will appear. Select Yes, I am setting up this printer for the first time, and click Continue.
NOTE: If the printer has previously been configured on another machine, select No, my printer is already set up. I am installing it on another computer. Skip to Step 7 below. 7 Connect Your Printer appears. Connect the USB cable between the PC and printer. Select Connect USB Cable now, and click Continue. 8 Accept the prompt to Print a Sample Page, and click Continue. Image 9 Product Registration appears. Select whether or not to Register the product and take part in the Lexmark Connect Program. Click Continue. 10 When Thank You appears, click Finish.
Insert the recording media containing the pictures into the camera.
Depending on your camera, set the USB Connection or Transfer mode setting in the menu to the Mass Storage , Normal , or PTP .
Use the USB cable supplied with the camera to connect the camera to the computer. IMPORTANT:
through a USB hub or other USB device -- such as a printer or keyboard
-- is not supported and cannot be guaranteed. Connect the camera
directly to a USB port on the computer.
If the USB connection
from the camera is not recognized by the computer, disconnect the USB
cable and repeat steps 4 and 5 using a different USB Connection or Transfer mode setting. If the connection is still not recognized, further troubleshooting is available.
The computer will automatically install the USB driver for the camera.
When the camera connection is established, an AutoPlay window will appear.
In the AutoPlay window, click Import pictures .
In the Importing Pictures and Videos window, click the Import button. NOTE: After the pictures have been imported, the Windows Photo Gallery window will appear and display thumbnails of the imported images.
If this doesn't work there is an updated driver available
A couple of questions: Are you using an accout that has install rights? (ie. Administrator level account ) Are you seeing the UAC (user account control) prompts if you are are you clicking allow this software to run? Can you install other software? If these are true then
at this point try removing all printer software, then restart computer. Now turn on printer connect usb cable to printer then plug into a usb port on the computer, Do you get a "Found New Hardware" popup window? If so remove the cable from the computer and restart the computer. Now insert the cd that came with printer and follow the instructions for the software installation. If you don't see a "Found New Hardware"prompt then try a new usb cable, or try leaving the printer connected and turning the printer off for about a minute then back on. If this doesn't help try leaving it connected and re booting your machine also try different usb ports on your machine. If none of this helps you may have account permission issues or just bad hardware.
I would really need more info about your machine configuration if these tips don't help
TRY THIS, remove or uninstall the printer from your computer and turn it off.
Now, before you switch back ON the computer, remove the USB connection of your printer.
When the computer is done loading. Install the Printer using the CD that comes with the printer.
When the installer ask you to insert the USB connection of the printer, that's the only time you should insert it to the USB port... switch ON the printer... Installation should proceed smoothly until completed.
