I have an HP Photosmart Premium C3009 all-in-one printer. Sometimes it refuses to print with a message that says: The process stopped unexpectedly with status 1. I've looked in the manual and find no reference to "status 1." Please help.

I also experienced the "process 'mdns' stopped unexpectedly with Status 1" message a few days ago with my new HP 7250, and found two solutions. Here are a couple of potential cures:

I downloaded the shareware program 'Printer Setup Repair', then ran their 'Reset and Backup' routine. Restarted, and bingo! Printing was successful. But trying to run either the HP scan software or the HP Ink Widget from Dashboard were not so successful. Got a 'Scanner not found' message. I then went to the printer, tried doing a manual scan there, sending the scan to my PowerBook. Once again, bingo. The scan was sent to my computer, and now the HP software could see the printer. I've since restarted both my computer and the printer several times; printing and scanning are working fine.

Now the second way to fix the problem. It's kind of hokey, but it seems to work, and is what led me to the The process 'mdns' stopped unexpectedly" with Status 1" problem in the first place. What you do is just add an ethernet router, that one you have lying around the house somewhere, between your DSL or cable modem and your Airport modem. Huh?

Here's the deal: when I first bought my HP multifunction printer, my wireless setup was this: Cable modem>Xsense ethernet router>Airport extreme. Unpacked and hooked up the HP printer, and it all worked immediately, perfectly. Print, scan, check supply levels, all no problem. Way too easy. Then, about a week ago I realized that the Xsense ethernet router that I had in the chain was really superfluous, as we no longer use ethernet in the house; might as well eliminate that unnecessary link in the chain. So I changed my setup to a simple: Cable modem>Airport extreme. At this point printing stopped. Tried everything I could think of, no go. Always got the "process ' mdns' stopped unexpectedly with Status 1" message. Put the ethernet router back in the chain, printing/scanning went perfectly. This made absolutely no sense to me, but it worked.

Left my setup with the extra router for a day or two until I remembered about the shareware program 'Printer Setup Repair', described above.

Before doing any of these steps it's probably a good idea to run Disk Permissions (I always run it before and after any installation), just to be sure you're authorized to be using the HP software.

Good luck!

Incorrect Cartridge Print cartridge in right stall not supported?

I changed the cartridge and it now works. I resent this though because it had been merrily printing before it decided it would stop and I have had to waste a three quarters full cartridge! I just hope the new one does not go the same way

HP C8180 has built in wireless adapter and Ethernet according the Website at HP.

If this is connecting to the network wirelessly, check to see that it is connected to the Network, is your router using secure passwords for a connection to the network,
Your printer will need these passwords just as your computers would
If you connect the printer with a Lan Cable, it will be more reliable, and shouldn’t need a password to be on the network. And makes life a little easier...

Your internet provider has nothing to do with your Printer not printing; this is an Internal Network Problem. The settings or your network has changed.

The Printer should have a static IP address

Printer not working

Hello Kathi1603,
Please try these few things to see if they will get your printer running again. First off, check to make sure your USB cable is properly connected at both the computer end and printer end. If that's OK..then power cycle the printer.. try to print a test page by going to the control panel from your start button and then select Printers and Faxes.. using the right mouse button for your printer, selcet Properties then pick 'print a test page' see if that works.. If that fails, then transfer the USB can;e to another USB port on your computer and retry all the previous things.. When all else fails, restart your computer and see if you can print a test page to your printer.. Hope this helps get you going..
