You can buy a used DirecTV with Tivo. You probably had a Hughes SD-DVR40 or SD-DVR80 before. The used model needs to be transferable to your account (which means it can't be leased, it has to have no outstanding charges on the previous account, etc). And you have to buy a new DirecTV card.

to my luck my son reset it by going to direct tv on screen and following the promps which allowed the second satelite to load ,which corrected the problem thanks for your response
tivo button is the Directv button (tivo home) at the top of the remote. if u have the new directv remote, the tivo home button is the menu button. remote needs to be on satellite. to program codes.
automatic code search. this may take a while to do but it works. hold the directv button and tv power until the red light stays on. while its on press the channel up button (this will search for a code). release and test with the tv power button. if the tv does not turn off, press the channel up button again and test with the tv power. when the tv finally goes off, press the enter/last button (bottom right corner of the remote) to store the code
Try this: On the Tivo remote press and hold the TV Power button and the Directv/TIVO button at the same time. Hold both buttons down for about 4 seconds or until remote light stays red. Then press the channel up button until the tv turns off. You may press the button over 100 times. You need to go slow. When the TV turns off press the enter button (or select button).
It is possible for the hard drive to fragment and in that case doing an entire hard drive erase and format should clear up that issue, but if it does not try looking at a possible buffer issue and the need for a software upgrade, I have seen this happen in some cases. DVR should go through an erase and reformat at least once every two months since you really should be storing your movies on a separate hard drive and using the internal hard drive for just temporary storage for viewing.
