I purchased a toshiba portable dvd player and the disc is not spinning therefore reads no valid disc. I have put in a few discs still same reading? Any suggestions?

Hello
The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.

Disc doesn't spin

Hello
Check whether the disc inserted into the player spins. If it does not spins, replace the sled motor.

Toshiba Portable DVD will not spin upon start up

Hello,
If the disc does not spin it will cause the optical reader to not read the disc, which will give you the "no disc" or "invalid disc" error. If a disc will not spin, the most common cause of this is due to a spindle motor malfunction. The good news is that it can be fixed on average of between $70-90 dollars depending on what service repair technicians charge in your local area. You can fix the problem yourself if you have the patience and a bit of knowledge, but I can tell you from first hand experience it is a pain to do this.

The pictures below provide you an idea of what you are looking at.

My toshiba portable dvd player (sd-p1900) won't play discs. We have two, and the other one works, so it's not the disc. When you put a disc in, it doesn't spin, and it says that there is no disc.

i had this same problem, its likely a disconnected ribbon wire off the drive, One I plugged that in it read/spun the disk, now I just need to get the screen to stop being blank white heh. Good luck ^^

I've had the same symptoms on the last two Sony DVD's that I've rented. I managed to get around this by hitting one of the menu buttons after the loading message stopped.
