Once I have turned it on, it starts to fill for around 10seconds, then stops, starts again for around 5seconds, then stops again...starts again then stops, then just beeps at me,
I have tried advancing to the spin cycle, but same things happens in any stage of the cycle,
Have turned machine off and then started again, but still no luck,
love to be able to fix this myself if possible
Thank you :-)

You need to check your lid switch & out of balance switch for
corrosion and replace if faulty.
Your out of balance switch is under the big yellow motor controller
OOB switch Is where the grey plate is on this picture.
If there is power and all your lights are lighting up but you get no responce from the machiene eg no spin, water filling, wash cycle or drain then it will be the sensor for the lid it will have coroded but this is an easy fix , I hope this helps
Firstly, the model 708 is way more than 9 years old. More like 18 - 19 years old. There is 2 types of errors on a smartdrive. One is signalled by a single beep every second & the top row of lights will change. The 2nd is a rippling musical sound (like when you turn the power on at the wall) and some lights will be blinking. You need to tell us what sound it is and which lights are blinking or which of the top row lights are on (exactly, count from the right to left and which number is on & which is off) There is no such thing as a reset to do. Once I know the fault I can advise you what to do about it.
Spin the fan on water pump (you can acess with difficulty from bottom of washer) if it has a little sand in it, it may clear. It is possible to remove water pump if mechanically minded and see if something small eg staple or 5c coin is stuck in it if this dosn't work or you may find you need to replace water pump.
