If the fan cleaning is not doing the trick, I suggest removing the heatsink and fan assembly, and cleaning the thermal grease off and reapplying. Over time the compound thickens and drys out - loosing its heat removal qualities. Chances are this will cure your problem.

I had the exact problem with mine.
mostly when i gamed, it would become blistering hot, and power off.
I did some research.
Compaq was brilliant enough to put the intake fan on the bottom, so your laptop suffocates itself.
Go to Walmart, Office Depot, etc. and get some of that compressed air in a can. it's called Dust remover. you can get it at walmart for $3. Power off you laptop and turn it over. Use a toothpick of slim item to block the fan from spinning. Go crazy and blast the crap out of your laptop. Clumps and clumps of dust will fly out. When nothing else comes out of your laptop. Flip it over. And power up. The first thing I noticed when I did this, is that my Laptop blew out cool air not warm.
It hasn't overheated yet.
Good Luck =)

Yes but the fan may be had it?......when a laptop heats up its mostly the CPU heating up caused by the fan not cooling it down. Which ever you remember there is nothing externaly that you can do to rectify it. You will have to open it up to see what the problem is are you prepared to do this.
