Hello there,
Registering the new garmin nuvi 1450 is quite simple. What you need to do is to connect the garmin nuvi 1450 to a computer that has internet on it. Then you go to www.garmin.com then you select the support link,
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/marketing/register.htm
then a list will pop up, select product registration, it will prompt you to create a user name and password, then it will ask for some information about the garmin you are trying to register. Then it willbe registered.
Would be glad to know if this information helped you.
Goodluck

The problem was following the Garmin instructions too closely. What I found via a GPS forum was that some USB cables can be finicky and trying different USB cables may solve the problem. In my case I found I had to turn the nuvi 255W on normally during registration; then connect the USB cable to device and PC. Then the registration and download worked. The documentation is not clear on this.
Found I had the latest map; but did upgrade my firmware from 5.90 to 6.10.
I had to switch to device to pc cable from the garmin original cable to a pc cable that works with my motorola razor. The funny thing is I originally tried the motorola cable and it wouldn't work, brought the garmin cable and now it doesn't work but the motorola cable does.
Now my pc finds the device and I can go on to the garmin site and update.
I also had this problem while trying to register a Nuvi 205W. I talked to someone at Garmin tech support and found that I was using USB cable that was only meant to plug in to my computer to recharge the unit. I have now sent for a data transmission USB cable, will see if that solves the problem when it arrives. Hope this helps.
This may be a repeat message. I am a Senior Citizen, not to bright with these systems. Can you help me Register my new garmin 205WT and find out how to down load most recent data.
