I have found some compatible cartridges e.g. from China have the chip which satisfies the Epson printer and others (more expensive) from the UK do not. The printer works but you get this nagging from Epson every time. I switched back to the cheaper imports and the printer stops moaning at me.

Here is the solution regarding with your problem. First you must set your system date to february 20 2007 and then download this resseter software click me. Click here to start download click to that and aftter downloading extract the software and install. If you do not have the zip or rar extractor go this link and click the download latest version to download the software and intall. After installing the 7zip you can right click the the resseter and extract. After extracting open the folder name R350 and double the SPR340350_Ver10 filename. Run the software and click accept. Set the settings that equal to the printer and click ok. Click the maintenance tab and select the waste ink pad counter and click reset to reset counter to zero. And follow the on screen instruction. Just try this out.Remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.

I searched the manual and all online help from Epson. There is no detail for the problem, they simply say if you get that error, contact Epson support.
