Re: IBM THINKPAD R30 DISPLAY PROBLEM
I've worked on several of these thinkpads which had this problem. There are a couple of things it could be depending on what the display actually looks like. If it "whites out" , or has lines.
First, make sure the ribbon cable is connected properly. If the lcd lights up at all, the inverter is fine.
Next, while booting the machine, press in on the memory; this might work better if you only have one memory stick in the machine. Just putr pressure on the memory towards the motherboard. I know it sounds weird, but it's a possible problem.
If that doesn't do it, the lcd may be shot.

The IBM ThinkPad Z61t computer runs the Windows operating system. Normally, Windows is displayed on a monitor in a manner that makes it easy to read. If you want to change the screen display configuration (from vertical to horizontal), modify the screen display properties in Windows itself. This process causes the computer to rotate the image displayed on the screen by 90, 180 or 270 degrees, depending on the setting you choose.
1.Right-click on an empty portion of the Windows desktop on the Z61t.
4.Click "Change display settings."
5.Click the "Orientation" drop-down window. Select the "Landscape" option to make the screen display items in a horizontal manner.
Hi, now you could be having one of two problems the first thing and easiest option is to scan for viruses and such like as this is often the cause of any display problems the second and more expensive problem is going to be that the lcd screen will need replacing or you may have a fault on the video board part inside the laptop both of these repairs will need to be done by a computer repair shop. Check if you have any warranty left as these repairs are not cheap.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
Here is the link to your service manual. I do not believe the unit has a "switch", it can be enabled and disabled through the device manager on windows. Control Panel > system > hardware > device Manager, scroll down to network devices and check to see if it is listed and either enable it or disable, whichever you want.
