Did you buy a replacement battery? Usually this will be because the battery is not an OEM part (made by Dell), your laptop can detect this and will give you a warning. I would always recommend using OEM parts as you don't know the quality of replacement parts and will void your warranty with Dell.
However, if it works, then you may well be ok to carry on.

If this has suddenly just developed from an original part then you have a faulty battery on your hands most likely and I would recommend replacing it.

Can't identify power source warning

Your AC Adapter Power Cord is bad based on what you are telling in your request for help. You need to replace the AC Adapter Power Cord.

You can further isolate and verify by the following steps:

If you remove the battery, and plug in the power cord, but the computer will not boot up or work, then the power cord is bad.

If you have them both plugged in and you are running off the battery then the power cord is bad and it is not charging the battery. Eventually your laptop is not going to power on because the battery will be drained and cannot be recharged until you get a working Power Cord.

I was recieving warnings upon booting to contact hp about a replacement battery. ignoring this my notebook stopped working. The power led's on the side of the note book indicate it is getting power,...

Did you try using another power cord to see if it starts? Could be a weak power cord or intermittent failing power cord.

Could also be a short in the system preventing power to flow through the laptop

Have put it on charge, but will not switch on battery symbol with zig zag through flashing every few seconds

either your battery is faulty or you power cord has a short. take out the battery and run the computer with just the cord in. if it runs fine then it is the battery. does your battery hold a charge?

Problem with power cord/AC adaptor...maybe?

I would just go buy another battery charger pack. They are like 75 dollars to buy. Sounds like yours might have a short in it!

MES60VK Gigabeat - Dead

There is a switch on the bottom left side of the dock connector of the player. Flick the switch to the right and it should work. The switch is the battery cutoff switch. It is there so it will charge only. I have no idea why Toshiba though this was a good idea, but they put it there.

Thanks again...

Sometimes, the battery alarm is set to high or off and it will automatically warn you when the battery is at a certain percentage. Most newer laptops will even warn you when the battery is going bad.

The AC cord is both the power cord and it will also charge the battery when plugged in as well.

So, it's safe to run on just battery as it may just be telling you that it doesn't have AC power and that you're running only on the battery. My Satellite laptop is setup to warn you when it's only on battery power as well.
