Hi, There are 5 versions/revision of this model. If you are using Revision E and can already connect to the Internet, there are 3 ways to secure the DI-524: 1. WEP security (though will slow down connection) Open a browser in a PC connected by LAN to the DI-524. Type 192.168.0.1. Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key. Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption (The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters). Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. 2. WPA-PSK security (though will slow down connection) Open a browser in a PC connected by LAN to the DI-524. Type 192.168.0.1. Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Select WPA-PSK using the radio buttons. Enter a key (passphrase). The key is an alpha-numeric password between 8 and 63 characters long. The password can include symbols (!?*&_) and spaces. Make sure you enter this key exactly the same on all other wireless clients. Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. 3. Not sure if you can also try MAC Filter and Hide or disable SSID Broadcast. Or a combination of any or all of the above. Alternately, you can refer to the Quick Setup guide or the FAQ at the D-Link site where this steps are better explained. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

The router installs fine on one lap but I still can't connect my other laptop

your first option is to go to http://192.168.0.1 Here Select admin from the drop down menu and leave the password field Blank.

Once the page loads youll see a series of options. this is the routers linux interface section. you will see D-link on the top left.

Select the first option Install router.
the steps would be as follows.

Step 1.
Insert the Router Setup Wizard CD in the CD-ROM drive. follow The step by step instructions. Once you done this And i believe you have already. see step 2

Step 2.
go to http://192.168.0.1 Here
Select the Option
Setup on the Top > Internet is on the left side.
Under the Internet connection Wizard Hit the Setup Wizard button.

Step 3.
Now on the Setup page Same place where the setup Wizaed is. just below their is another option called Wireless Security Setup Wizard.
Press the Launch Wireless Security Setup Wizard Button.
Read the 3 steps then click the next button to continue.
Steps for step 3.
1. Enter a SSid this will be the network name you see when you want to connect to your own network. example.. MyHome
2. Select your security option then click next. (For simplicity chose WEP)
3. click apply.and let the router reboot.

when it comes back online you should see your network you just setup. our example was MyHome.
If you are new to router setup. use the Wep security called Good on your routers security WEP. and just write the key it gives you down. this is the code you need to connect your devices and is considered ok for a simple home network.

How to connect my d-link router to internet and lock it

All you have to do is connect the router to the DSL Modem through LAN cable and make configure the router according to the needs and ISP. To secure the connection follow the following steps: -
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and lookup for the options to do the following: -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password (unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password password.)
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

Next step is to secure it:
1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Settings" 2.Under "Security Options", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Apply

Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

I installed my D-Link DIR-615 router today and did my setup in my Window 7 laptop. I don't know whether it matters whether I do setup in a laptop or a desktop. Then, I connect the modem/router to my...

If you have trouble connecting to your modem, you may need to lock the speed down on the WAN port of your router to 10Mbps. Within the web-based configuration utility for the router, go to Tools > Misc and the option to select the WAN speed will be towards the bottom. Not all routers have this option.

Follow the steps configuring the router once again...

Step 1 Log into the web-based configuration by typing in the IP address of the router (default:192.168.0.1) in your web browser. The username is admin (all lowercase) and the password is blank (nothing).

Note: The address 192.168.0.1 is NOT on the Internet. The web-based configuration is built-in to the router.

Step 2 Click the Setup tab and then click the Internet button.

Step 3 Dynamic IP Address is the default value, however, if Dynamic IP Address is not selected as the WAN type, select Dynamic IP Address from the drop down menu. Click Clone Mac Address. Click on Save Settings to save the changes.

Step 4 Click on Status. Under WAN, Click DHCP Renew. If it does not get an IP address or times out, then continue with the next step.

Step 5 Power cycle the cable modem and router using the following steps:

Turn the cable modem off (first)

Turn the router off

Leave them off for 2 minutes**

Turn the cable modem on (first)

Wait until you get a solid cable light on the cable modem

Turn the router on

Wait 30 seconds ..

Step 6 Follow Step 1 again to log back into the web configuration. Click the Status tab and click the Device Info button. If you do not already have a public IP address under the WAN heading, click on the DHCP Renew button.

LAn IP not configard

Yes, it is little bit complicated process, but you can do this as follows:

Step 1: Fix or assigned IP to each Computer manually or by login to the Router.

Steps 2: Then block all the ports (1 to 65534) of that IP/Computer from the Router from the Block Services Setting by login to the Router (If your Router have this setting).

This will block the Internet on that Computer but the LAN will work.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nintendo DS vs. ActionTec GT704WG

Your DS may need another connection that is only blocked with a red lock. (Meaning WEP code locked.) If so, phone a computer tech support to help you set a connection with Wifi (wireless connection) and ask him/ her to set it to WEP code and "blocked". Then ask them to temporarily leave while you set your WEP password. A grey lock means that your DS is not compatible to your access point.

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.
