My TV tuner gets the video just fine, but there is no sound. How can I fix this so I get sound?

1. Check to see if you have a digital television adapter (DTA) or digital-to-analog converter for your TV Tuner that came from the cable company. Using the remote for this adapter or converter, make sure you don't have the sound muted. This seems obvious but I was completely perplexed by the same problem and this was the solution.

2. Open Windows Volume Mixer, which will likely be in the Taskbar, during the time when you ought to be hearing sound from the TV Tuner. Make sure nothing is muted and the program, such as Microsoft Media Center, is not being muted from the Windows Volume Mixer. With Windows 7 it is now possible to mute one program while leaving other programs at full volume.

3. Try different software with your TV Tuner. First try VLC Media Player, and then try Microsoft Media Center, and then try whatever software came with the Sabrent TV Tuner.

Hopefully one of these ideas gives you a breakthrough.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

My Sony Bravia television froze on a digital picture today and now when I change channels there is no picture and no sound. I tried to do a digital scan and it picked up no digital signals,. The analogue...

Hi,

Your TV has a dual tuner - one for analogue and one for digital although they are contained on the same tuner board. It's possible that the digital tuner has failed, in which case the tuner board will most likely need to be replaced, but often this problem can be resolved with a "hard" reset. Turn the TV off and unplug it. Remove all the cables from the back, leave it for at least 5 minutes and then re-connect only the cable from the tuner source. i.e aerial/antenna. Make sure you are in Digital TV mode (DTV), then run the channel scan again.

If it works turn the TV off, re-connect all of your other devices and you should be able to resume using the TV as normal.

If this doesn't work, you may need to have the digital tuner replaced. The analogue and digital channel feeds are from the same source. As the analogue channels are working there is no obvious fault with the feed or cables.

Please try this first and then post back for further assistance if needed.

BElectric

PC Sound Card Connection to Denon AVR-2805 or Samsung 40B610

  • Should I be connecting my pc sound card directly to the receiver or to the tv then to my receiver to get the best sound output? To your reciver
  • When I get the HD Digital Tuner, does that make any difference for the pc connection?
  • Try to connect everything that is sound onto your reciver then
  • connect all your video to your your TV for now
  • When you get your digital tuner connect all your inputs for video to(in order >reciever>HD Tuner>TV
  • Basicly everything goes to your tuner first.

Whats the difference

a digital tuner has one advantage only, the stations can be pre -set.
a digital reciever uses a pll synsethizer to generate a signal to lock on the station,an analog tuner is subject to more drift, and as well the sensitivity is a hair less, but if you get a tuner with fet front end transistors,it will sound better.
alot of people say that the hysterisis signal is more evident on a digital tuner.
buy an old marantz or pioneer from the 70s.
the marantz 2275 is 75 watts a side and will outdo todays 500 watt home theatre amps.
they do not build them like that anymore.

More than likely you need to set the tuner up for this. On your DUI "Digital User Interface" you will need to go into the digital in assignment and select the digital input, you should have the option's of, coax, optical or analog. Select COAX and you should get sound.

This unit has a 181 channel tuner and while I can't find anything that states it has a digital tuner, it sounds like it does. The easiest way to find out is to check the setup menu. If it has a digital tuner, it should give you the option to autoprogram the digital channels.

Hope this helps,
