Pantyhose wrapped around agitator of GE washing machine

I got pantyhose wrapped around the agitator of our GE GTWN4250DOWS washing machine. Can we remove the agitator ourselves to untangle and remove the pantyhose? Will it damage the washer to run it with the agitator tangled? Thanks.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Calypso Top Loader

The wash plate (or nunater) can be removed by following these instructions. It may seem like a lot, but the wash plate will not come out of the tub unless you follow the necessary steps: 1. UNPLUG THE WASHER. 2. Open the washer top. Look along the front seam of the washer where the top meets the front. There are a couple of retaining clips (about 2" in from each side) that you will need to push in on with a putty knife while gently lifting up on the top to get the top to release. Carefully open the top and lay it back against the wall in a resting position. Make sure you support the lid so it doesn't fall open when you tilt the top back. 3. Remove the tub ring. This is the plastic donut shaped ring that sits on top of the wash tub. There will be a tab on either side of the outer tub near the back that you can use a screwdriver to release the tub ring. The ring is filled with fluid and is used to balance the tub. So, if you hear liquid sloshing around, this is normal. 4. Remove the center cone from the wash plate. Use a flat blade screwdriver and insert it into any of the slots available along the sides. Gently pry until it pops off. I say "gently", but you may have to use a little muscle to get it to come off. Sometimes they stick. Once the center cone is removed there will be a series of nuts under it. 5. Remove the nuts and the wash plate should lift out. Be careful not to damage the gasket under it. Your clothing is probably tangled in the leveler under the wash plate. This leveler should have a key on it. The wash plate will only go back in with this key mating to a slot on it. So, remember how you took it off. In addition, when putting the wash plate back on, make sure you tighten the nuts in a cross pattern and evenly tighten them as you go. This will ensure the gasket seats properly. Good luck to you and I hope this helps you. PS Don't forget to put the tub ring back in.

SOURCE: agitator making clicking noise when washing clothes; clothes wrapping around agitator

Hi,
If this a whirlpool brand washer, there are sone parts bad in the agitator it's self. These parts are called dogs and they make the agitator rachet so that the top half only goes one direction. Does this sound like what you are experiencing? If so, let me know and I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Clothes wrapping around washing machine agitator.

This issue could be caused by a number of things. It is possible that the clothes are not properly balanced in the wash drum, causing them to wrap around the agitator. It could also be a problem with the agitator itself, or with the transmission.

A ge top load washer first began by making a buzzing noise instead of spinning. Now it doesn't spin as fast as before or just wont spin. Jeans wrapped around the agitator shouldn't damage the spin?

the agitator spins with the tub so clothes wrapped around the agitator will have no effect on the spin other than a balance problem
The hum and failure to start spinning may be attributed to a failed (failing ) start run capacitor or program board not moving on properly
As the start /run capacitor is for the motor and if it start the wash cycle ok but after that cycle ( around 30-40 minutes) it may be too hot to restart the motor for the spin
I suggest that a technician be called in to get a proper diagnosis and a quote

HOW DO I REMOVE THE AGITATOR FROM A GE WASHING MACHINE MODEL GTWN4250DOWS

Grab it in a choke hold and yank straight up. It should pop right off. There are plastic tabs that hold it to a coupler. Let me know if it gives you trouble.

Pantyhose stuckl around agitator on my ge model g142

The agitator does pop off. I found that instead of using a screw driver to 'pop' it off with one swift motion, it worked better to work my fingers underneath the agitator and shimmy it off going back and forth in short movements form left to right.

Can I use dryer balls and/or dryer sheets in the kenmore steam dryer?

Instructions
Things You'll Need:

* Wool yarn
* Scissors
* Crochet hook
* Pantyhose or sock

Make the Core Ball
1.
Wrap some of the yarn around your fingers.
2. Take your fingers out of the loop you created and close the hole by pulling the yarn through it.
3. Wind yarn around the loop until you form a ball about 2 inches in circumference.
4. Cut the yarn attached to the ball using the scissors. Try to leave a little excess yarn dangling from the ball.
5. Grab the excess piece of yarn with the crochet hook and tuck it inside the ball to prevent the ball from unravelling during the felting process.
Primary Felting
6. Put the core ball into the pantyhose or sock, and tie the open end in a knot. (If you are felting more than one core ball at a time, you can separate them within the pantyhose or sock by twisting the fabric in between the balls before tying the knot.)
7. Put the pantyhose or sock containing the core ball into the washing machine with a load of laundry.
8. Remove the ball from the pantyhose or sock when the cycle is complete. It should now be slightly felted. To increase felting, simply repeat this process.
Enlarge the Ball
9. Wrap more yarn around the felted core ball to increase its size. It's all right if you make the dryer ball a little big at first, since it will shrink over time as you use it. A good initial size to make a dryer ball is around 9 inches in circumference.
10. Cut the yarn with the scissors once you have made the ball the appropriate size. Try to leave a little excess yarn dangling from the ball.
11. Tuck the excess yarn inside the ball with the crochet hook. This will prevent it from unravelling when in use.
Secondary Felting
12. Put the dryer ball into the pantyhose or sock, and tie the open end in a knot.
13.Put the pantyhose or sock into the washing machine with a load of laundry.
14. Remove the ball from the pantyhose or sock when the cycle is complete. The dryer ball should now be felted and ready for use the next time you do laundry.
