My car just recently broke down and want some ideas of what may have caused it. It has always ran great and started right up until a few weeks ago. 2 weeks ago I had to give it a little gas for it to start. Over the past few weeks it has gotten worse. And as of yesterday it decided to stop working. It almost turns over but no such luck. I've had people say it might be my fuel pump, but i can hear the fuel pump coming on.Others have said maybe my fuel filter may be clogged. Or maybe it's the timing belt. My car is a 97 Honda Prelude amd if anyone has an idea of what this problem is please let me know.
Sounds like the fuel filter.. if you have those kind of skills, they're usually cheap to buy and worth a shot to change. depending on the location the labor will take you 1 - 5 hrs...

I doubt it is the crank position sensor as it has no contact with the oil system. How far did he drive it when it was 'Squealing and Rattling'? There could be more serious issues here.
I would suggest you get the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic system or an OBD2 scanner. This will give you any trouble codes in the system which will help identify any issues. Car electronics have a setting where if it detects serious faults it restricts or stops the engine to prevent more damage.
Check the timing. Before I put anything back together I always start the car and make sure everything is okay. After puting the belt on you always want to rotate the crank two full revolutions to double check your timing. This is of course assuming u did the timing belt because of maintenance and not because it broke.
I had a bad ignition coil cause the same problem. Simple to replace yourself, and inexpensive. Worth a shot I think. New plug wires might be advisable.
STARTING HARD SHOULD BE A BAD GLOW PLUG AND DIEING OUT WHEN DOWN SHIFTING OR BRAKING ON THE PASS SIDE FRONT BOTTOM OF BLOCK THIER IS A LOW PRESSURE MECHANICEL FUEL PUMP WITH A PIECE OF RUBBER HOSE IF IT IS KINKED OR BAD IT WILL CAUSE THAT
