Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
If cleaning doesn't work you may need a new printhead (which is the plastic box thing that the ink cartridges sit in). Having searched the web, this seemed like the most likely problem. I took a chance and bought one on the web, which cost less than the the call out charge for an engineer. It worked straight away. Search around on the web as the price varies. Don't bother with Canon Helpdesk as it's a total waste of time. Their advice was to try buying a new set of ink cartridges and it that didn't work to get an engineer.

It seems there's something wrong with the cartridge connector. Try cleaning with a soft cotton cloth soaked with alchohol or After Shave and check for the ribbon connecting the head for possible damage or cut.
