I have had the problem with the thermal cut out keep kicking in, I have just cleaned the filter under the dust collector. the one on top of the motor. I believe your supposed to replace it, but I like the kill or cure method. so gave it a wash in a bowl of hot soapy water. the amount of dirt that came out was stunning.cured the problem instantly

Hi,
You can service/replace the motor, but getting at it is a proper fiddle!
You need to find all the torx screws located on the base, unclip the the two circular spring washers (one each side) and then tease the two halves apart. Inside will be another enclosure with the motor in it. I got a replacement off te net (ebay) for about £20. Be careful not to lose your rag and break the plastic! If you're having trouble with cut-out on Dysons be absolutely sure you've washed and dried all the filters - if they are a bit clogged the hoover just wont work. Hope this helps

My dyson vacuum shut off and now it will not come back on, I have cleaned the filter, I have cleaned the roller on the bottom and all the hoses. Why is not working, I've only had it for a about a yr. I am not happy with this vacuum, it is way to expensive and does not work like you say it will.

Can anyone explain how to open and inspect the motor on a dyson dc05?
exactly the same problem, all symptoms point to the thermal cutout!
