Where can i down load schematics for this the motherboard was made by HamStarr on the motherboard is says Dell DAOVO2MB6EO OR DA0V02MB6E0 ?

Its better to just look up the chip nomenclature of all the chips on the board, One is going to be an NVRAM or EEPROM chip of 2MB or less, usually a very small chip at that. And it may have a sticker on it saying AMI or Phoenix or other BIOS manufacturers.

Location of bios chip on dell Inspiron 1764

The BIOS chip is soldered onto the motherboard. It is about a 1/2" square chip. The below link is the Dell Inspiron 1764 Service Manual from Dell for the Inspiron 1764. It is in PDF format (Adobe Reader online file, and downloadable).

http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_inspiron_laptop/inspiron-1764_service%20manual_en-us.pdf

Opens in Adobe Reader so make sure you have the program already installed, or download and install Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com first.

Once the Service manual is opened. Go to the: System board section. Then scroll down to Replacing the Coin-Cell Battery Click on the link...That is the BIOS chip battery. The actual BIOS chip is not a removable chip on that particular motherboard, but a soldered in place chip located on the opposite side (surface of the motherboard) right near that coin-cell battery location. That chip may be reflashed w/ the latest BIOS by downloading the latest BIOS.bin file avail. from DELL at the following Drivers link.
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-1764/research
Choose Drivers and Downloads from the left>Choose the installed OS Version first>Then choose BIOS from the list. The following choices are there; (only 1 version of OS avail. without the actual Service Tag # appears; Win 7 (64 bit OS)).

Windows 7 64 Bit>Latest BIOS file version is A13 (Released 06 Apr 2011) If that matches your OS (Go to Start>Control Panel>System>General Tab and look for Windows 7 and 64 bit as the type of OS installed, you can also download Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com and install and run it, allow the hardware and software inventory to load (print out the inventory) if possible, on the right near the top the System board info and currently installed BIOS info will show on the inventory along w/ everything else about that current laptop setup), if so, and Win 7 64 bit shows and the BIOS version is anything less than A13 (a smaller # like A6 or A11...then you need to update the BIOS to the A13 flash), is listed, go download from dell the A13 file, and install to flash the BIOS to the A13 latest BIOS version released. Then delete that downloaded file. You only need to flash it once.

Or go to:
www.dell.com Choose Support>Look on the bottom of the laptop for Service Tag: Number or Tag: and enter the # printed there usually a short combo of letters and #'s. Or you can have it scan for the tag # by installing the provided program. Then once you are at the Inspiron 1764 location>Enter your Operating System Version or flavor installed>Choose Drivers. In the Drivers section choose BIOS, and look for the highest BIOS Version Number and latest file date created.

IF THE MOTHERBOARD will not boot to the BIOS setup Screen (Motherboard BIOS is BRICKED or DOORSTOPPED=Corrupted BIOS, usually caused by incorrect flashing w/ the wrong file, or an inturrupted flashing...Though, sometimes just a dead motherboard BIOS coin-battery type battery replacement, and re-flashing with the latest file will cure the issue though).

And should a new preprogrammed BIOS chip be required to UNBRICK THE MOBO, for the Inspiron 1764. One can be purchased on ebay at the following link, but should only be installed by a VERY qualified technician. (Notice it says on their pic....New chip to be soldered on board). That takes skill to properly handle, desolder and resolder the chip properly. DELL and others can also reflash bricked BIOS CHIPS. Chips that were flashed incorrectly turning the motherboard into the dreaded doorstop.

But if the BIOS setup is reachable (the computer will start and boot to at least the BIOS Setup screen...Usually F2 or F10 or Delete keys. Just watch the screen on boot up, choose the BIOS Setup or Setup key combo listed). If so, (you can get to Setup, then the BIOS Chip is not bricked, corrupted, damaged, or doostopped), In that case, just go download the latest BIOS Version .bin file from the above Dell Drivers Link for your OS version, and go into Windows and double click the file w/ the power adapter plugged in and all other programs closed...follow the instructions, and do not interrupt the BIOS Flashing process (very IMPORTANT!) The computer will simply restart after the BIOS flashing is completed...You may have to go back to setup after it restarts and load default settings if it does not load Windows after the flash, then restart again.
