I have a Panasonic UF-490, and the faxes I would send out would come out with streaks on the receiving fax machine. I thought it was a simple problem to fix by cleaning the scanner glass, which was fairly dirty.
Now after cleaning the glass I get 2 very thin lines approx 1.5" to 2" apart down the middle of the page when ever I send a fax or make a copy.
I thought it may be dirt or dust particles on the inside of the scanning where I can't get to, but it looks clean.
Any suggestions?
Either the glass is scratched or the sensor has gone bad that is used to scan the image. Are you using a document feeder or laying it flat on the glass? If you are laying it flat on the glass then it is most likely a sensor going bad. If you are feeding it through the document feeder it could be that the feeder itself needs to be cleaned, or the paper path through the feeder.
If it is the sensor you will need to send it out for repair. There may be an option to re-calibrate the scanner in the software, that may help if the sensor has just degraded and not failed.
I hope that helps.

I also wanted to add, I tried changing the drum and the toner cartridge and I get the same results. I also confirmed that it's only happens I scan a document, I receive documents just fine.
