Model acd2234hrs amana is getting a lot of ice build up through outn the freezer all food in freezer has layer of ice on it

My freezer is getting heavy ice build up on everything inside. It looks to be dripping from the ice bucket but not 100% sure. all food plue shelves have ice build up and icicles on them. the line that runs to the ice had come undone and caused a leak but that has been reconnected and problem seems to have gotten worse.

Check that the fan is running at the back of the freezer section. If it isn't, the freezer will continue to get colder but as the air is not moving around the cabinet, you get areas of ice buildup. The fan is usually at the top of the back panel, With the fridge unplugged, remove the panel in front of the fan motor. You can otherwise check if the fan is running by pressing the door switch whilst the freezer door is open. If the fridge is running, when you press the switch, the light should go out and the fan should start.

the middle insulation hasbecome water logged, forma faulty defrost tube, so, every time trhe unit defrost, 2 maybe 3 times a day it will spill water inti the vents, andin to the refrig, the only correct way to fix is to have the enitre center drain block replaced, part not that expensive but labor to install may be, ohter then nussincence, not really affecting machines workings

SOURCE: Ice build up in freezer

Defrost system failure.

Defrost timer, heater, therma disk, any one could be bad.

You could manually defrost and this would get the Ref back to working for a couple of days before it iced up again. Remember there is a lot of ice build up on the cooling coils in the freezer that you can't see so, a little extra time with a hair dryer is needed to do a complete manual defrost.

SOURCE: Our freezer is not cold, food is defrosting, ice

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently

SOURCE: Ice dispenser frost build up - Amana refrigirator

This sounds like your ice may be melting and freezing around the chute. You may need to replace that rubber gasket on the chute. Otherwise, if you use a lot of crushed ice, that will build up badly on the chute and you can manually clean that off. I hope this helps you!

SOURCE: Amana model SXD25QA3W. Not cooling. Compressor runs.

Low on refrigerant which is R 12. EPA has stopped the manufacture of it and it is priced out of sight.
You have a leak and will need it fixed. Compressor is about $300-400 list. You don't want to go there.
Good luck but likely 15-17 years old....... New one ???

Making hardly any ice

Are the ice cubes being formed the same size as before? If freezer temperatures are increasing above 5 Degrees Fahrenheit in freezer this will slow down and at times stop ice production. Look around the rear wall of your freezer to see if a layer of frost is building. If yes this will indicate a defrost problem that in turn raise freezer and fresh food temperatures. Here is a Whirlpool Ice Maker Troubleshooting PDF You can find this info on this page HERE You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents. My fridg and freezer is cold but not could enough the freezer wont keep food frozen. there is no ice build up, I replaced the defrost timer, and I cleaned the fan in the back what else could it be please...

Hello Nicole,

Their are a few things that couldbe causing your refrig.troubles.

1) their is ice build up in the return air vents that is not allowing air to flow correctly
you can see the air vents under the crispers in the ref.floor and can see if they
blocked with ice.

2) the freezer fan is bad and not circulating cold air into and out of the ref.

3) In addation to the defrost timer, perhaps the deforst heater and defrost thermostat are bad and frost is building up in the freezer,Do ya see frost
build up in the freezer??

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Appliance is running nonstop. I believe that the freezer drawer has been shut completely. Foods in refrigerator section are fine; foods in freezer section are...

Frost can build up for multiple reasons. Most common is the start os an iceblock. Other reasons can include condensation from door being left open or opening too much. It can also happen from backsplash from the inlet tube for the ice maker. If the fridge is running non stop. It sounds like the ice block is forming and the temps are not getting to the program temps. If at factory setting the freezer should be at or around 0 degrees and fridge should be between 42 and 48 degrees. Has the fridge shutdown at all to go into defrost? The defrost timer may have went out and is causing an iceblock. If there is an ice block always change bimetal/ defrost thermostat.

If you need any further assistacne please feel free to comment me.

Freezer is cold but it is not freezing foods.

When it comes to refrigerators I always have a most likely to least likely formula to try to solve the reason of why the freezer or fresh food compartment is or is not cooling properly. So knowing that the cold air comes most times from the freezer compartment I would look to see if the fan inside that compartment may just be slowing down because it is possible there is frost building behind the freezer wall due to most likely defrost not taking place and creating a huge block of snow and ice blocking air circulation.. Ice will show on the outside wall of freezer also if possibly the defrost heater is burned out. There are so great testing tutoral'son the following links! So now having your model number that most people don't think about I will look to see just what type of defrost system your model has=> ABB1927DE EVAPORATOR AREA and Rollers location 16 in photo. Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Amana ABB2224DEW

I have this problem as well, only nobody is leaving anything open. The defroster is defective of these things and the duct between the fridge and freezer gets frozen over and the cold air can't get in the fridge, so the freezer keeps working until it's blue in the face.

Whirlpool Refrigerator fresh food section cool but not cold (freezer ok).

The most likely problem is in the defrost system. Behind the freezer panel there is not only an evaporator fan, but also the evaporator itself, and a defrost heater, termination bi-metal, and drain pan (or trough). You will likely find ice build-up in the evap coil. This could be caused by the defrost timer, the heater, or the termination bi-metal.
Have a service tech look at the unit.

Ice builds up inside packages in freezer.

This is the moisture coming out of the food. It is what causes freezer burn.

The problem is made worse in frost free models by the defrost cylce. Best way to slow it down is to use vacuum bags or freezer bags. Also above 0 F food deterioates faster and below it gets freezer burn and the moisture problem faster.
