The unit was dead so last night I replaced the 20A fuse and the display started blinking but none of the buttons will do anything. Also I can hear what sounds like a relay of some sort clicking on and off on the right side of the unit but I can't quite identify where it is. After a few minutes the relay quits but the display still flashes. Is there some reset button in this unit? We only use it as a microwave. FYI - The last time we used the convection oven was probably 8-10 years ago. We really love it woulld like to bring it back to life. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Assuming the unit works ok other than the display, you have a problem common to many Sharp models.
Check with www.microwavedisplay.com - lots of info on this issue and they offer a repair service for the boards at a very reasonable price.

The fact that the microwave and convection both do not heat indicated that the oven is in demo mode, check the user manual, otherwise it will possibly be a relay not triggering, may need a pcb replacement, check Demo mode 1st....Phil

The aluminium foil has created a short on the magnetron - the device that generates the microwaves . The magnetron failed and in turn has shorted the power source's transformer - the sizzle you hear is the secondary high tension coil burning away when the unit is powered. This of course triggers the fuse every time you try it.
There is nothing more than can be done to save this oven , the damage is too extensive. Just junk it and get a new one.
