Getting playstation 3 sound coming out of dvd surround
Ive just bought a wharfdale dvd 400htdab player(surround system),i've got freeview coming out of it fine but when i try to playstation coming out theres nothing,i was advised to buy a optical audio lead which plugs straight into both playstation3 and dvd player but as yet still no sound, i havent got a manual so im at a loss, any help would be appreciated............
Re: getting playstation 3 sound coming out of dvd...
This wont be very helpful, but, it is worth noting that although you may think you bought a "Wharfdale" product, i'm afraid you haven't. Chan bros. bought the rights to the name some time ago and so what you have is a cheap non-descript chinese import. sorry.

Use an optical cable from ps3 to surround sound and hdmi from ps3 to tv.... But I can't get my samsung surround sound to come out of the tv with built in freeview either. Just wondering if you figured it out. Cheers
Most digital inputs are assignable, so go to set-up menu on your receiver and make sure the optical port (opt1 , opt2, etc.) is assigned to the input (vcr, aux, etc.) that you want switch to to listen to the PS3. You may also need to go into the PS3 settings menu and turn the optical to output the Dolby Digital signal. You have to do this with most DVD players, too.
If you have surround speakers with a surround system, then connect the Player to the surround system using for example RCA cables (White and Red).
If you have speakers only, connecting many speakers to a non-surround system won't give you surround. In surround systems the sound is controlled, elaborated and distributed through the speakers by a circuit.
I am not familiar with the manufacture and model of your TV set. This does appear to be a compatibility issue between the TV set and its DVD player, and the surround speaker system. The TV set may not be able to directly send the proper information to the speakers. I would consider to call the manufacture support people to have a definate answer.
are you trying to use the surround sound for movies or music ? , ive got the dvd version of this system (sc-dv290) and ive noticed the surround sound tends not to perform well with music , but sounds great with movies. i think its because the movies have dolby digital and music does not. The dolby pro logic in my opinion doesnt really make that much of a difference in sound unless the sound is cranked up past 44db on the amplifier. the only cables you need are the ones that are attached to the surround sound speakers and they cannot be removed so it cant be the wiring . I reckon you have a 1 - faulty system 2 - listening to music 3 - maybe not pressing the pro logic button on the sound processor. Hope this helps
Have you tried to hook up your DVD player directly to the surround sound system? If you direct the sound through the TV, it has to pass several circuits and the quality will be lover. Just connect it right away to your sound system. :-)
