I have a laptop connected via ethernet, a Vista desktop connected via wireless network card, an XP desktop connected via wireless USB stick and 2 x Wii's connected wirelessly, all with WPA set as the security setting on the Belkin router, but when I tried to connect the new DSi I got an error because it doesn't like WPA, only WEP or security disabled, so I disabled the security and the DSi connected, but both the desktops now can't find the network to connect to it? both Wii's and laptop connect fine, can anyone help?
Hello, yes i had the same problem, but i had it with many other computers, the way i solved it was going into the router settings and click the "restore default settings" then turned the router off for 15 seconds (for a fresh reboot) then when i had to set everything up again i got all my computers on the router and im able to add more without running into that same problem once again, or for a simpler solution try disconnecting the wireless on the computers and replugging them in.... that works sometimes as well

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).
You don't say whether you are trying to connect via an ethernet cable, or via a wireless connection. Try the following in order: Some of these may seem obvious, but it helps eliminate the more simple problems first: (general guidance, as I'm not sure which windows version you are working with. Did you upgrade from Vista to Win 7?)
Assume you have enabled the network on the laptop FN + number key or physical switch?
Check if you have the Ethernet and wireless drivers for this laptop first from the Toshiba support site and install them
In Control panel / device manager, see that the network devices for wireless and Ethernet Lan are appearing and have no warning mark next to them. If they have, you need to check what the problem is by clicking on the device shown and following the instructions given (repost your findings if you need more help)
See if you can connect to the internet using the ethernet lan connection cable (direct wired connection). If it does this ok, the problem lies with the wireless connection.
Assuming the wireless card in the laptop is present and is functioning, the next step is to check the router settings. Using the supplied CD that came with the router, or clicking on the router symbol in control panel / network and open the wireless security settings page, reset the wireless password and make a note of it. Save settings. When setting security, choose 128 bit security for more safety.
See if the laptop now picks up the network and when prompted enter the password you just created. If this works you are finished.
If it still does not work, try disabling Windows Firewall ( a common problem) and see if that then allows for connection.
If it STILL fails to work, try the laptop on a friends network. If it connects then, the problem is with your router. If it does not work, you have a failing wireless card in the laptop.
To confirm this, obtain a USB network dongle and test it on your laptop with your own network. You can get a replacement card off the likes off eBay and this is not difficult to fit.
Basically you need to have your wireless router connected to the modem via a Ethernet cable this allows the signal to be received in another part of the house via wireless signals, after you have done this turn on your ps3 and go to network settings, click connect to internet then wireless network. After you have done this make sure you have all the security settings next to you if needed.
to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.
After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.
I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps
Try changing the authentication type to WEP/WPA/WPA etc. Might be your XP laptop doesn't support current authentication type. Thanks for joining us. Have a nice day.
you could try getting a wifi adapter and creating an access point, you can connect that way if your ps3 has wifi I have a laptop with windows XP Pro and have been trying that my desktop PC with Vista Home can see it. MY Components: -Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G). -Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop) -Linksys Wireless G/B Router -G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and -Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer
At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help? -When I turn On my media sharing in my PS3, my internet on Laptop loses it while PS3 search and find, then, because laptop lost wireless, the PS3 looses the laptop and I get wireless back. I knowis a stupid setting but tired of workin back n forth. Thanks
With Vista on the Laptop it should be just a matter of double clicking the router in the network settings, vista should automatically configure the connection.
This has happened to me before and this is what I did just to see if it worked, and it did flawlessly.
