it knows where i am and can do all the routes etc, it just won't pick up a signal
went onto a site in ireland
which gave the following advice and i did these
but none worked
- reset
- go to open area with no buildings, left it on for an hour and a half but still no signal

No signal no matter where I am.No signal no matter where I am.
I have had my GPS( TOmTOM One) on Waiting for Signal for 2 weeks now and I finally fixed it.
My symptomtoms (word play) were no signal at open areas, when connected to Tom Tom Home it showed exactly where I was and worked through the PC but when disconnected back to the same thing.
I called Tom Tom CS and nothing, FLash did nothing, factory defaults nothing, and updating did nothing.
What I did:
I charged the unit completely.
I took a paperclip and while off pressed on the reset button at the bottom by SD slot. I held it there for 30 mississippi's.
I did not turn it on after letting go.
I went outside to my car (parked on roof of parking lot) turned it on and set it on my dash vertically.
I left and came back in 1 hour and wallaaaaa. It is working perfectly!
Do you have the latest software? Mine shipped with outdated software. Had to download it then I did a gpsquickfix and now it finds all the satellites and has been working fine.
You might have better luck getting a solution to this problem if you post it under the Tom Tom 710 section of the site. I found your problem under the Garmin 276C section.
It is possible that the receiver has given out, check to see if it is within manufacturers warranty, if it is then the manuf should fix it for free.
Save all your routes etc before sending it back as it will most certainly get wiped and factory loaded.

Route will not plan until the GPS is locked.
Soft reset on the button underneath for 30 seconds will reset the GPS receiver on a 700.
Then wait upto 4 minutes for a refreshed lock after power up
3. Look closely at the GPS output that is displayed in the View Status
menu. Data should be flowing even when the GPS receiver has not locked
in the position.
The data string that begins:
GPGSV... is "bad data" because the receiver has not locked
into the satellites.
Whereas:
GPGSA... is "good data" indicating that the receiver has
locked into the satellites. Remember - "A-Okay"
4. Once the data is flowing, go outside away from buildings, select
the Satellites tab (Tools>GPS Status>Satellites), and watch
the satellite signal strength
i work as a truck driver on a small fleet of 7 vehicles in the midlands UK
3 of us have Tom Toms, the others have medion, navman or garmin.
ALL the tom tom users have been experiencing GPS problems this week ( june 21 onwards ) whilst the rest of us have seen no change in GPS satelite availability.
In addition, a friend who uses a TOM TOM One XL in another part of the UK has also had same problems.
Its a TOM TOM problem generally it seems, and NOT your particular piece of kit.
i can't get signal
