The Ipod or the USB cable may be defective.
Try first connecting the Ipod to a different computer to test it, or using a different data cable.

If Ipod works, then do the following.

Unplug computer power cable, and if it is a laptop or a macbook also remove battery for ten minutes. This will get rid of elecrostatic charges on USB connectors.
If that does not work try reinstalling Itunes, this will synch the Ipod again with the computer.

Transfer playlist from Itunes to Ipod Nano

Open iTunes and plug in your iPod. On the left sidebar there should be your iPod name (If you can't find the sidebar, go to iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar), go to your iTunes playlist and drag the songs you want to your iPod. For all of the songs, go to your iPod music library, even if you don't have songs, and on the bottom there should be a blue-ish bar. There might be a box saying "Autofill from iTunes library" click that ONLY if you want ALL songs from your iTunes to your iPod.
If you want to know how to put video or DVD movie onto iPod, I think this step by step guide would help you.

How Do I Download Songs Onto My iPod Nano?
IPod Nanos are portable multimedia players that allow you to playback songs and other content (e.g. video) no matter where you go. They come in a variety of memory sizes such as 4GB or 16GB (gigabytes) and work with iTunes to upload songs. ITunes is the iPod default management program which allows you to upload songs to its library, create playlists and sync music on your iPod quickly and easily. This simple process will have you jamming to your favorite songs in no time.

Load music on my ipod

Connect your iPod to your computer with the USB cable that came with your iPod. The iPod screen should say "Do not disconnect".

Your iPod should appear under Devices in the bar to the left.

Decide whether you want to sync your iPod with your iTunes library or manually put songs on your iPod.(nano only)

Syncing your iPod will automatically add all of the songs in your library to your iPod. It will also delete any songs from your iPod that are not in your library. Click on your iPod icon and select Sync in the lower right corner.

If you do not want all the songs in your library on your iPod, make a playlist of all the songs you do want, or decide which playlists you want to include on your iPod.

Click on your iPod icon
On the top bar, click on the button which says "Music"

Make sure the box that says "Sync Music" is checked, then check the box for whether you want your iPod to sync with the entire library or selected playlists. If you click selected playlists, select the playlists you want in the playlists category. For newer iPods you can check which artists are included on your iPod to automatically import all the songs from each selected artist onto your iPod

Hi I have a playlist on my itunes which when I download it onto my ipod, one of the songs is missed off. This song shows and plays on the playlist on itunes, and is on the main menu of my ipod, just not...

  1. Plug in your iPod to your computer and run iTunes.
  2. Sync your device.
  3. Re-check to make sure that song is under that specific playlist (if its not drag it onto the playlist)
  4. Make sure the box next to the song in iTunes is checked meaning it will sync with your iPod and your playlist.
  5. Apply the changes you have made to the playlist by re-syncing your iPod.
  6. If the box is checked and you sync your device the song should be listed under your playlist.

The problem is, i want to put music from my laptop onto my apple ipod 4GB a1051, how do i do that please?

The following information has come directly from the apple support web site.

Adding Content Automatically or Manually
There are two ways to add content to iPod nano: ? Automatic syncing: When you connect iPod nano to your computer, iPod nano is automatically updated to match the items in your iTunes library. You can sync all your songs, playlists, videos, and podcasts, or, if your entire iTunes library doesn’t fit on iPod nano, you can sync only selected items. You can sync iPod nano automatically with only one computer at a time. ? Manually managing iPod nano: When you connect iPod nano, you can drag items individually to iPod nano and delete them individually from iPod nano. You can add songs from more than one computer without erasing songs from iPod nano. When you manage music yourself, you must always eject iPod nano from iTunes before you disconnect it.

The following URL will bring you to the iPod Nano manual. For more information on setting up you iPod see chapter 2: Setting up iPod Nano

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

I loaded a bunch of new songs to my playlists and my 4gb nano snycned as much as it could. Then I tried my 8gb nano and it would not add the new songs to it. Help me please

Is it set to be 'Manually Managed'? If so you have to drag the songs or playlists onto the iPod manually. Don't forget to click the eject button when you want to remove the iPod. You can also turn 'Manually Manage' off. If that doesn't help try doing a reset. Hold down the 'Menu' and the centre button for at least 10 seconds. You should see the Apple logo & the iPod starts up again.
Still no good? Try a restore. Connect your iPod with the cable that came with it to the USB port on your computer. In iTunes, click and (Restore).

My apple iPod will not show up on itunes and i can't turn it on HELP!!!!

Sorry if I'm too obvious, but are you using iTunes?

Yes? Then check your iPod settings on iTunes:
If you want to just drag songs to the iPod you have to set it to "manually manage music" on the iPod "Summary" screen.
Otherwise you need to create playlists in iTunes and synchronise your iPod to those playlists (tick them in the "Music" tab.

Of course, if you already knew all this, sorry! Maybe you have a usb port problem (try restarting computer) or an iPod problem (try resetting your iPod). NOTE: with iPods, you MUST use iTunes to transfer music to iPod, and it is NOT possible to transfer music FROM you ipod TO your computer (say you've loaded songs from someone elses computer to your iPod and you want to put them onto your computer - no can do! Use a flash drive).
