Need a little more information. I'm not exactly familiar with your model. First, is it the Windows password or the BIOS password or a security password? I will assume a BIOS password and will give you generic information. Again, I am not familiar with your model. Some laptops have a reset button located in a recessed hole in the bottom of the laptop or maybe under one of the covers. Reset it with a straightened paper clip. If yours does, try that. Else, one can remove the battery and then the small BIOS coin cell then wait about 15 min before putting the coin cell back in. (I have actually sped up this wait time by then shorting the terminals in the cell holder with a penny, but I don't recommend it for laptops. Do that at your own risk.) If you are lucky, your coin cell will be located under a removable cover, else you may have to partially or totally disassemble the laptop. It is becoming more popular these days however that this method also will not work. A call to Acer and proving that your laptop was not stolen may get you a backdoor password. This always works for Dell. Some laptops now also have a security chip, like IBM. If it is a security password, you may be out of luck. You may have to replace the BIOS chip (which means soldering a new one in) or replace the motherboard. (You can send the laptop to IBM and have them remove the security password for a very high fee.) Also, with some newer laptops, like IBM, the computer may be able to lock/password the hard drive. That means replacing the hard drive as well. (There are companies that can unlock these hard drives for a high fee. If the data is very critical, you can buy an exact replacement hard drive and replace the circuit board on the locked hard drive with the circuit board from the new hard drive.) I hope that yours is not one of those. I would first try calling Acer and see if there is a backdoor. It would be unique to your laptop based on the serial number. This would be the easiest and cheapest method. I hope that this "generic" laptop password technique helps.

How to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup.
Reasoning: IBM compatible users may need to enter the BIOS or CMOS setup to setup or change how their computer's hardware is currently configured.
Solution: Because of the wide variety of computer manufacturers and BIOS manufacturers over the evolution of computers, there have been numerous different ways to enter the BIOS or CMOS Setup. Below is a listing of the majority of these methods as well as other recommendations for entering the BIOS setup.
Notice: If you are unable to get into the BIOS or CMOS setup because of a password please see document CH000235.
New computers Thankfully, computers that have been manufactured in the last few years will allow you to enter the CMOS by pressing one of the below five keys during the boot.

A user will know when to press this key when they see a message similar to the below example as the computer is booting. Some older computers may also display a flashing block to indicate when to press the F1 or F2 keys.
Press <F2> to enter BIOS setup
Tip: If your computer is a new computer and you are unsure of what key to press when the computer is booting, try pressing and holding any key on the keyboard. This will cause a stuck key error, which may allow you to enter the BIOS setup.

Click on : Computer Administrator
