Console is Eurospec 60GB Firmware version 2.70, System has a 2Meg Broadband connection.
Recently purchased Spiderman 3 and Pixar Shorts on Blueray, error comes back saying "Playback of BDs is prohibited on this System" Also when I try to back up to a 1gig SD card it gives me an error code 80010002 Any ideas???
The 80010002 code normally means that there is an error with a game/film.
Have you gone into the settings on the XMB to see if you have it set up (perental lock?) correctly? The 80010002 code normally means that there is an error with a game/film.

With the blue ray error thing could be because the CD thinks your trying to copy it, or yes theres and Or, in the option menu and look at your movie or BR settings, if that doesn't work i dont know what to tell you sorry dude!

There are two different lasers on the drive.. Red for DVD and CD.. Blue for Blu Ray..
The Blue Laser may have failed.
Of course it always helps to check drivers and firmware updates for the drive itself. There was one firmware update 12/2010 for this player at the Panasonic USA website (support) Version 1.43
Finally Check your BD Ratings settings. There is a setting that could prevent all Blue Ray Discs from being played. It should be set to NO LIMIT which allows any rating. Page 24 of your manual.
You cant play as Venom in SM3, but you can play as spiderman in the black suit once you have finished the game or collected all 100 meteorite pieces depending on what version you are playing
Try reseting the ps3 or try to update the firmware version to the latest, the problem may be fixed in an update. If that dosn't help call the sony peoplethey could help in this problem.
The issue is the laser (actually has different diodes for blu ray, ps2 format and regular DVD.
Seems like in your case the only one that is burnt is the blu ray.
Send it back to Sony for repairs or if you do not have warranty purchase a replacement lens and install it yourself.
Some PAL games will only run on standard and some will only run in HD and some will run on both if the PS3 is NTSC. The PAL games output at (576i/p) while the NTSC outputs at (480i/p). So honestly, I think that is your problem. You have a NTSC system and PAL games. If you do not have a HDTV then you will need to exchange those games for the NTSC version. Sorry for the bad news. It's not Sony's fault, it's how the game developers coded the games.
I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
Thanx for the response.
All parental controls are set to off.
