Just a WAG, but My first suspicion is your internal battery has become very weak. It's down low and behind the control panel. Similar to a smoke detector when the battery is getting weak. Hope this helps!

Probable cause is low battery voltage, maybe the battery was not fresh or was of too low quality. For such a nice clock, extra cost in getting an Energizer Ultimate Lithium or VARTA Professional Lithium cell is justified and the AA sized battery with 3000 mAh will work for many years. Otherwise, use Alkaline batteries and don't forget to check the expiration date always. Check http://www.batteryshowdown.com/results-lo.html to get some ideas on what to buy and what to expect.

k cart is the Black Ink Cartridge. You are obviously low on ink.

The E320 in that year range upto approx 2005 uses an auxiliary battery to operate the brake pump when main battery supply was lost or low. The low battery warning you describe can be caused by the aux battery being low. This battery is a small 7Ah battery mounted under the pollen filter in the engine area.
